Surrendering ships give no prestige in 1.20
Today was the first time I was able to force a ship to surrender. I didn't know this was possible though, and of course the only way it can be done is if it is in city, and blocked by other vessels. However I didn't receive prestige for doing this and I'm playing with 1.20 patch. Is this supposed to be like that? Every other unit gives prestige when it surrenders. If ships were to give prestige that would be great too

Re: Surrendering ships give no prestige in 1.20
Do you mean prestige, or experience? I know surrenders now give experience (thanks for that!). But I don't think prestige...
I believe the mechanic is based on unit value, so including ships would really skew the results. I think omitting them is correct. Also, I think they "scuttle" and not surrender, correct? Thus there's no tangible booty to salvage - which might be translatable into theoretical prestige if that is the case.

No surrenders give prestige too! And if there is no soft cap, that prestige can be substantial due to mass attacks that AI likes to throw late in the war. This is a nice feature, that enables player to play a bit more casual if he doesn't want to micromanage the units and play game at extremely slow pace (as he would do in say Rommel difficulty).Kamerer wrote:Do you mean prestige, or experience? That is true. I can just guess ship value due to their huge repair cost. So yeah surrenders would give big prestige rewards. But on the other hands surrenders of ships (if they existed) are very rare.Kamerer wrote: I believe the mechanic is based on unit value, so including ships would really skew the results.
Maybe you are right on this one. I just noticed red word that appeared quickly and disappeared. And that word also started with letter S. Well if it is just the scuttling option, then there is realistically no prestige to be salvaged.Kamerer wrote: I think omitting them is correct. Destroying enemy units doesn't award prestige so neither should forcing them to surrender. If it does it is a bug but i don't really think it is the case. Off to test it and i will report soon.
EDIT: I tested it out and yes seem forcing a unit to surrender is actually giving you some prestige which is probably a bug as killing said unit is not yielding any prestige at all.

How come Tarrak?
Prestige awards for units surrendering was one of the features od 1.20 patch. It is working for me, and I had plenty of conversations with people before where they also confirmed it working...
Destroying of course doesn't bring prestige, but surrenders (AKA material capturing) brings prestige. Although only in 1.20.
Depending on the unit that surrendered, prestige gain can range from 20-50 (infantry), to over 100 for enemy tanks that surrendered.

Re: Surrendering ships give no prestige in 1.20
Never mind me i just assumed forcing a unit to surrender awards you exp bonus and not prestige bonus to make forcing a unit to surrender same as totally destroying said unit. Turns out i was wrong all the time: it really is meant to award prestige.
While i personally don't like awarding a mechanic that players can exploit easily and the AI can't (at least not purpose) thus making the game even easier if it's meant that way it's meant that way. In that case the ship scuttle/surrender may be a bug of course.

No it's not a bug.
Think about it. You get 10% of the cost of the unit added to your prestige.
Ships are very expensive. Adding that much prestige would unbalance the map. This feature is for a little flavor.
Besides it is too easy to exploit it and make the game easier.
Think about it... it's suppose to represent captured equipment you can use.
What are you going to use off a ship?

Well yeah I understand that ship surrendering would unbalance maps a lot.
On the other hand I had troubles with prestige in the mod (due to prestige cap) so I was looking for any prestige I could get. But turning the cap off helped a lot. Now I'm able to maintain the core more or less successfully. Also the mod was made without cap in consideration, so any prestige less than intended creates hell in unit management.

Guns! Re-mount them on a fixed defence which the the Germans did to manny famous ships.Razz1 wrote: Think about it... it's suppose to represent captured equipment you can use.

But i do agree that skuttled ships should not give prestige as the time frame and war conditions will hamper salavge of skuen ships in shallow waters.
