comp in derby - april 2014

Post by dave_r »

Looking at a fog competition in derby in April next year. Would just like to gauge interest and requests.

Two day comp

Would you prefer singles / doubles?
Open / themed
Variable table size
Four games?
Game length?

Numbers attending would be useful so please respond if this would interest you.

Possibly not the best month Dave, The Challenge is 12/13 with Easter the week after.
If you do find a slot you may get more takers using Hammys Stockport event ,ie 2 1 dayers 650pts

Yes - it is unfortunate, but next year the dates are already confirmed.

Maybe in subsequent years we can change the dates a bit. Anyway - please let me know if you are interested and if so what you would like to do.

sounds good. i'd be up for this... and dare i say it "Phil is correct". definitely more points! 900 or even 950 would be nice. not so sure about open. but the points would make it fun. lot's of big troop formations. nice.

4 hour games is a bit harsh. I like the 950 points though. We used to play doubles at 1000 pts - perhaps we could try that.

Just to guild the lily some more, this event will be at a British Legion club, so the furthest table away from the bar is around 8 yards. Catering will be supplied as part of the deal, which will be £20.

So far we have had interest from:

Phil Powell
Dave Saunders
It's likely I'll be there in one form or another

Please let me know if you wish to attend.

How is Phil expected to survive if he is on the table 24 feet from the bar...?

When in April though?

Phil's problem is easily solved. Run the comp as a doubles, so he has a runner

Salute 2014 is 12th April, same weekend as the Challenge, so you've booked the Easter weekend, if you can believe David.

How did that happen? If it really did happen. The BHGS calendar for next year could do with some updating

I can't make 18/19th April, as I'll be in Niagara Falls NY. Assuming those really are the dates. Shame.

I'm gradually working on adding events to the BHGS Calendar as and when they get announced, but if anyone wants to send their dates via the submission forms on the BHGS site we'll be happy to post them

Even if they are over Easter Weekend :-)

The organising committee was unaware that 18/19th April was the Easter weekend. Following that forks pass alternatives are being investigated.

As for theme - would 950 pts on a 6x4 table with no cavalry or knightly lancers allowed be reasonable?

We've got a venue with food and drink on hand, with loads of parking in a central location.

Themewise I don't think this number of points has been used before and no lancers hasn't been tried either. Hopefully meaning some troops are now viable which in turn should get some armies on the table that aren't usually seen.

What more do you want?
