The assassination of Gaius Julius Caesar in 44 BC ushered in a new period of political upheaval. The Caesarean party, having reasserted control of Rome and forced the flight of the 'liberatores', was however split between the partisans of the charismatic and experienced Marcus Antonius and those of the untried 19 years old Gaius Julius Octavianus, Caesar's adopted heir. In the following year Antonius overplayed his hand, leading to open conflict with the Senate and Octavianus. Aulus Hirtius and Gaius Vibius Pansa, the two Caesarean consuls for the year, reluctantly led the Senate's forces against him. In mid-April, on marshy grounds near Forum Gallorum in north central Italy, Antonius ambushed Pansa's army as it marched to link up with Hirtius'. The death of both consuls in this battle and the following battle at Mutina a few days later, coupled with the defeat and temporary eclipse of Antonius, left Octavianus in control, on his way to becoming the supreme master of the Roman world as 'Augustus'.

Designer's notes:

Antonius smashed Pansa but on his way back was surprised to see Hirtius who in turn smashed him. The key to victory for Antonius lies in minimizing his losses in destroying Pansa. He needs have at least one of his two Praetorian cohorts relatively intact to stand a chance.

The late arrival of Hirtius necessitated the implementation of a new technique within the limitations of the software. It can be adapted for different arrival times by lengthening or shortening the 'tunnel'. this scenario also uses 'objectives' and 'points', the two techniques introduced earlier in Delium and Adrianople.

The only problem left involves troops withdrawal from the battlefield. working on that.

Note that this is my only scenario where 'Double Moves' must be used.
