mixed BG base removal

Post by franck »

Probably this has been already answered somewher but I can't find it .

A BG of 6 bases (1/2 shooters  , 1/2 HTW  ) :
assuming the formation is 2 bases wide, and 3 deep (facing top) :

When shoot at, and one base is to be dropped, a  is lost. Same case in a melee.

How and when can take the reserved rear  the place of the lost base ?
1) during a melee I assume, this is not possible
2) if the loss occured during a shooting phase, this can be done only through a reforming, or this can be done through a normal movement ?

Thanks

Franck

You can choose which base to replace the lost base with. Reforming doesn't come into it.

So you could choose to add  in either scenario.

Lost bases are replaced by ANY rear rank base

putting the arg into argumentative, except for the lists I check where there is no argument!

Thank you for your answers.

Do you mean that a HTW lost, must not be replaced by the directly behind shooter duting a melee ?
That's really a suprise for me, as I don't see it is played this way usually : my Warring States Chinese have been "forced" to put Crossbow in the melee after a loss (at least in this part of the Channel!)

I don't know the page off the top of my head but there are rules for which base is removed and which replace it. It only becomes complex when in 1 line and fighting multiple BG. But a lost base is replaced by any rear rank base. If you are 4 deep and 3 wide you can replace the lost base with ANY of the 9 rear bases.

Correct. You have been playing this wrong. The rule (page 124, Base Removal, last paragraph) says about the replacement "Non-front rank bases must be used...can be from any part of the battle group". So you can choose any of the four bases in the second and third rank to replace the casualty.
