15mm Naked Gallic army

Post by helot2000 »

This being my 3rd time painting Gauls, I decided to do them Galatian style, sans pants or shirts. I've got command stands and a camp up next. More pics of this Gallic army plus the prior 2 are here on my blog: http://twincitiesfieldofglory.blogspot. ... lic%20Army

How did it come about that you did the Gauls three times?

I ask because I would quite like to revisit the first army I did (EAP) now my skills have improved but am worried it would make me feel a little futile!

First of all, thanks for the comments! I did sneak in paired "pantsed" command figures on some bases to help delineate where a unit ends and the next begins.

Eques, good question. I often have post-production ideas about what I'd do differently if I were to paint an army a 2nd time. Sometimes, I find new reference material. Maybe it's a change in colors or figs used, painting style or even just that I've become a better painter. Sometimes the 2nd run is rewarding. My first Gallic army was Old Glory block painted and dipped, my second was nicely painted Xyston based for Impetus. The 3rd was a completely different take from the prior 2. Sometimes, the 2nd run is not so different from the first. I painted a nice Later Medieval Hungarian army, sold it to pay a vacation bill and then painted it a 2nd time. For the 2nd version, I found a new Hungarian heraldry site and I also went a bit darker. The 2nd version was not so different from the first so perhaps I should have painted up a new army before going back to paint an army a 2nd time!

Command stands + camp = finish line! Great Xyston figs mixed in with Old Glory. If I were to paint Gauls again, I'd try the Blue Moon line next. Now, lets see how they fight.
