There are a lot of very sad people taking this far too seriously in the comments. Hope you aren't one Iain.
And anyway he doesn't want to ban porn so the more adult models on here are safe

Judging by some of the people who post here, and are seen at wargame shows, a little less addiction and a little more practice at social interaction skills might not go amiss...

Looking at this and another blog of his supporting regulation of porn, he sounds like a certifiable card carrying Tea Party member opposed to government regulation of business and all in favor of government regulation of your personal life. His blog on Warhammer makes as much sense as most other Tea Party positions.

You missed his separate blog posting in favor of banning porn. He's all in favor of that as well.philqw78 wrote:There are a lot of very sad people taking this far too seriously in the comments. Hope you aren't one Iain.

Re: Wargaming should be banned....
I thought his Warhammer blog post might have been satirical until I'd read this one http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/timst ... servatives. He's also written a biography of Pat Buchanan whose opinions include that WW 2 was a tragic mistake in which the US and the allies eliminated good potential allies Germany and Italy in the fight against Communism.

Re: Wargaming should be banned....
Well this time of year is always a slow news time. Editors are getting out thier filler articles. This one is a bit thin: tongue in cheek has been done a lot better than this. Slightly lame link to a story of the day (well, a story that's been around for a couple of years really). I do always like the comments on these "grown men playing with dollies" articles.
Re his views of alliances in WWII, all he's really doing is replaying a quite probable scenario; though I suspect the "would this have been better?" is purely a question of political bias. It's impossible to say what would have happened.

As a professional journalist, I must point out that this work is not intended to be taken as journalism. It is not a story, nor is it an article. It is an op ed piece, pure and simple, and not a very good one at that. Think of it as an embarrasing letter to the editor written by your senile uncle or something.

Tiring to see modern politics dragged in here. For the record few Tea party people would advocate government expanding it regulations in any direction.batesmotel wrote:Looking at this and another blog of his supporting regulation of porn, he sounds like a certifiable card carrying Tea Party member opposed to government regulation of business and all in favor of government regulation of your personal life. Also the logical flaw of debate point that x sounds just like Y isn't up to your usual rigorous analysis.
Every couple of years there is a round of people who want to go regulate our hobbies. Do gooders or in modern blogs trolls for readership. Remember the more controversial you are, the more sales is the general MO of such types, including newspapers located throughout the world.

Since he's writing for a UK paper I doubt he's a Tea Party member. This is another facet of that "the USA is not the world" modern nonsense.hazelbark wrote:Tiring to see modern politics dragged in here. However, this isn't as OT as you might think. This style of journalism "pander to how you readership already thinks" is exactly the same as some of the primary sources for our period. which suggests that when a primary source says "the Aztecs fought with fanatical fervour but we pressed on and by the grace of God prevailed" perhaps they are twisting the truth more than a little. The Nahuatl oral sources give a more balanced view including "our officer wanted us to fight these men in metal armour that our weapons shatter on with their metal swords that our armour is useless against. So we killed the idiot"
Oh, and re the X/Y thing Dan. Surely that's the Chewbacca Defense? - therefore only to be deployed if all else fails

And I like the Mad Hatter's Tea Parties. Been to a few. He wasn't just serving tea though.
