First off; some of you may have noticed my absence for a while now from the forum. This has had nothing to do with anyone; but was a result of certain situations in my life that placed major constraints on the time I had available for participating in GS activities. I sorely missed GS and this forum. Unfortunately those life situations and time constraints have not changed; however, I’m making time to pick GS up again, play a game against the AI and post the play of that game in this AAR. I was able to get my hands on the pre-released version of GSv3.00 and will be playing with that version. Other than this AAR, I’m afraid that my absence from this forum and from participating in GS activities will continue. Again, this is nothing personal but dictated by my life situation.
I’m fully aware that I’m playing against the same AI that was developed for the vanilla game oh those so many years ago. And even for that version, the AI is horrible and easy to defeat. However; this doesn’t mean that I can’t have fun playing against it in this latest version. I hope to show that even experienced players can enjoy an occasional game against the AI. I do caution the beginning and less experienced players that playing against the AI is not the way to learn effective and solid tactics and strategies. You only learn them from play against others; preferable those more experienced and better than you are.
I’m itching to look under the hood, kick the tires and take this new version of GS (v3.00) for a test drive. I will be playing the axis against the allied AI. My objective is to conduct the historical strategy and fully crush the allies in Europe and Africa. I will not invade England or the US and will play against the AI as if I was playing against a good and experienced player. The only exception is that I won’t go after allied convoys. I will use my sub and naval force to counter (i.e., prevent) UK and USA invasions of Europe. I know that the AI cheats by effectively having an infinite amount of PP’s, manpower and oil. It can build and repair anything and everything it wants and never runs out of PP’s and manpower. This means that it will have an inexhaustible number of transports to throw at trying to get ashore in Europe even if the war is completely going the axis way. With this cheat it makes no sense to go for allied convoys as I would do against another player. Thus; this is the rationale for my decision to build and use an axis sub force to counter the inexhaustible allied invasion attempts that I see coming.
GS from its earliest version to now is intended for play against another player or against yourself (i.e.; hotseat). Only those changes to fix bugs that crashed GS have been made to the AI. With that said I plan to start a game against the allied AI and see if I can completely conquer Europe and Africa. I will leave Britain and the US alone; but I want everything else on the map. Will I succeed or will I find that I’m a rusty old hulk? I hope you enjoy.
