XP Mouse Problems

Post by KevM01 »

 When I load GBoR under Windowz XP (Service pack 3) the mouse or the games hangs. I can relieve it temporarly by using the Alt + Tabs keys but it tends to hang again and locks up for good.

Sorry you are having probelms. This is not something we've heard of before. Can you post your full system specs and we'll see if we can get you up and running.

Was "Service Pack 3 a typo?" As it would currently only be in beta (if that) IIRC.

Random crashes aren't something that we have seen a lot. Does it hang at a specific place?

One thing I would try would be turning off the sound (open the user.txt file in the DATA directory and add the line:

NOSOUND 1

and see if that helps.

Hanging

Post by KevM01 »

It hangs on the first first tutor screen. Alt Tab will free it for a short time. It usuallly hangs on every screen change. Sometimes it will free itself, but after 3 or 4 goes of the Atl Tab key the graphics goes haywire. The No sound option didn't make any diference

Can you check you have the latest drivers for your card as they often have bugs that need fixing.

Well its good to know its working but I don't know why it wouldn't work with your old card as the game does not use anything unsual 3D wise.

Thinking about it more, one thing it could have been would be faulty vsyncing/frame buffering. As it the game is so happy on low end systems, it could conceivably have issues on a fast gfx card which was set up to ignore the vertical sync as it would buffer too many frames and appear to hang. I used to see it all the time on older ATI cards, but it is a possibility.
