COhesion test for skirmishers evading through you
What is the logic of having to take a COhesion test when skirmishers evade through you? Surely this was a normal event?

It's a game mechanism to provide a disincentive to putting a unit of light infantry in extended line directly in front of units in tactical and pushing the whole group up to 2mm of the enemy.
The enemy shoot in their turn, retire the skirmishers leaving the supporting units two unopposed close range shots. You can still use this tactic but the supports will need to test when retired through.

Perhaps it's because an evade or retirement is not exactly a formed move so can cause some discombobulation to the friendlies as they pass by/through.

Don't forget its the skirmishers who are in open order. The unit being passed through is in close order and does not get a chance to open gaps to allow them to pass through, thus the cohesion test.

Also it is not a normal event on this scale.richafricanus wrote:What is the logic of having to take a COhesion test when skirmishers evade through you? Surely this was a normal event?
It is not the detached skirmishers returning to their parent formations.
It is an entire regiment or brigade falling back. That is a considerable body of men.

When you put it that way I suppose it makes sense.
