Multiplayer Games

Post by citizen6 »

Woods - like it a lot. Great potential for the use of combined arms.
Shepards - interesting but the terrain needs adjustment as the Axis rear is fairly open while the Allied rear has a nice box on the left flank where enemy tanks can't go. By deploying the trucks here you can defend them very easily with a couple of infantry units. Also the force is British but the flags and turn icon are American.
Rescue - again I like this and it seems well balanced but I haven't had sufficient games to see whether the Allies being limited to staying in town is an issue (maybe a jeep or two would be good - how did they get the 57mms into town??)
Cornfields - too big - it's turn 4 or 5 and we haven't even seen each other yet. I like armour battles but it needs to be condensed a little especially as the battle tends to be over quickly in open terrain. I understand you're going for a Kursk sort of thing, but the set-up is too long for a battle that will effectively determine the outcome in 1-2 turns.
Lightweights - I really like this scenario but it is currently unbalanced - too much artillery on the Allies side and the Allied force is much more mobile (M5s and Greyhounds). I still think all the armour should be removed (but I might be on my own there). Was surprised to get tanks as reinforcements. Not really in keeping with the theme.

See, and I like Shepards as is,....and actually see the Germans as being able to hold their own very well.
Plus,..you have to consider where you deploy troops initially. Also, do you take a defensive posture, or jump in with a full attack,...
In my first time playing Shepards,..me and my opponent actually circled each other completely,...was pretty funny to find myself on his side while he shot down the other side.
We're still dukeing it out.

The rescue scenario is awesome. At first site,...I wasn't so sure,..and playing both sides,..I thought there was no way either side could win.
However,....initial placement of troops is the key factor here. Not to mention that you must be careful on the beach,..meaning don't get your Panthers too close to the arriving wave of troops.

I have to disagree with you about Cornfields. That is what makes it great,..is the space between.
The anticipation is nerve wracking,..you never know when you'll stumble upon your foe.
Plus,..at least the way I see it so far,...the Allies need that time to setup in hiding holes and wait for the Germans to stumble upon them.
I am so glad they created an all TANK scenario. I'd like to see a few more tank vs. tank. (infantry need not apply)

Thanks guys. That's all awesome, detailed, feedback. If people have different opinions on MP maps at this stage then (generally) it means we are doing something right, and that there are multiple ways to play the maps, as well as something for everyone. Something like Shepherds is definitely going to be a Marmite mission (you either love it or hate it... ;) )

Cheers

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of Shepherds but there should at least be vehicular access to the box.....

Vehicles can see and drive through the corner between the bunker (66,20) and the forest, but it may need a bit of tweaking.
