Impression After 5 Minutes

My impressions after 5 minutes:

1) The install process worked flawlessly.

2) It would be nice if the updater had a progress bar, but that is not essential.

3) The game loaded quickly (especially as compared to something like Distant Worlds, which I've been playing just before this). The progress text was helpful to show the loading progress.

4) The splash screen (if that's what it's called) with the initial menu was nicely atmospheric, though it would be better if the trooper shown there was shown in sharper focus.

5) The music is very, very nice -- quite atmospheric.

6) The intro movie is also very good in terms of establishing the game's atmospherics.

7) I like the variety of set up options, and can't think of anything I would add.

8 ) The different factions are a good selection of archetypes, and I can't think of any I would add.

9) It would be good to have a progress bar when the game says it is initializing, so that people won't be afraid it's frozen up. (Because it does take a while to initialize.)

10) The map graphics look good (though I do wish they were slightly sharper to the eye). I'm very glad the map features hexes instead of squares. Hexes have a more organic feel to me.

11) It would be nice if the mousewheel would allow me to zoom in to wherever the cursor is positioned.

12) The ambient sounds are very good -- they help make the map feel alive.

13) The save game and load saved game processes appear to work flawlessly. (I've loaded saved games several times as a test.)

So far it gives me that "worthy successor to Alpha Centauri" feel.

Thanx for the feedback, if your like me and like the super sharp edges you can try to turn off the anti-aliasing under the video options, things will look a bit more pixelated but on high resolutions screens its barely noticeable and everything looks a bit sharper instead.

I tried this, but it didn't seem to make a difference. In any case, the graphics look fine to me.
