Formation following flank attack

Post by Vespasian28 »

This came up in a game this afternoon between Classical Indians and early Successors and not entirely sure we did this right.

A unit of Indian javelinmen has a charge declared against it by a unit of Iphrakatean Hoplites but my opponent has forgotten about the "useless" Indian cavalry almost to the hoplites rear who promptly intercept into their flank.
So, the hoplites contacted turn leaving the rest facing the Indian infantry so they are in a kind of L shaped formation.

Point is can they stay that way so that when the Indian infantry charge in next go it is not another flank attack? (This assumes of course that the Indian cavalry stick around for the Impact and melee phases.) Or as they are not already fighting in two directions do they have to adopt a legal formation, all facing the same way?

I don't think it makes any difference but this is V2.

See page 77 - you have options - last bullet, plus first bullet on Page 78. Hopefully that covers it.

Thanks Pete.

It was the final bullet of reforming we missed.
