Is the Medenine scenario broken or am I just too dumb to get it ?
I've played this scenario 4 times so far and lost each time, although each time, I've taken at least 3 or 4 victory hexes. The last 2 times I took 4 hexes (the 4 flags at the bottom of the map beyond/in the minefields) and occupied them, and still lost. So do I have to definition of victory hex wrong ?

Look into the Topic Allied: Medenine topic within this board. There are several replays that you can download and watch how others have done this. The Save Replay/Load Replay option is a great tool.
Re: Medenine scenario
Not every flag is victory hex. Difference between hexes considered victory ones is in golden border around the flag. On this map hex called Gabes at coordinates (16,12) and El Hamma at coordinates (6,12) are victory hexes controlled by Axis forces. If you compare them with other flags you will notice golden border around it.hudatmon wrote:So do I have to definition of victory hex wrong ?
Re: Medenine scenario
Aha ! Thank you ! I thought that might be the answer when I looked at the 'Strategic' version of the map, but noticed only those 2 hexes were circled with gold, so thought I was wrong. That still makes the victory conditions somewhat confusing. The minimum is 3 hexes. So what's the 3rd - any other flag ? Sigh, I've been playing this the wrong way all the time.....
Re: Medenine scenario
You already control two flags with a Gold border.
Re: Medenine scenario
Hmm, thanks. I think the victory conditions as stated then, are confusing. The fact that you already control 2 of the 3 or 4 victory hexes needed to win should be clearly stated.
Anyway, thanks for clearing this up for me.

Re: Medenine scenario
When you already control some of the victory hexes and need to capture some more, conditions will ask from you "...to capture and hold...", when you are defending only conditions will ask you "...to hold...", when you are attacking conditions will ask "...to capture...". It is good to look at strategic map to get better overview about locations of victory objectives but take into account that small icons representing units can obscure map view. In this case it is useful to toggle between air and ground units to see which plane offers better map view.
Re: Medenine scenario
Well, to muddle the point even more, I played that scenario again and this time won easily.
However, according to the victory conditions as stated, I shouldn't have. I won by blocking the road going off-map to the north, but I did not ever have more than the 2 victory hexes you start off with. According to the conditions as stated, you need to capture at least one of them (assuming you still have the the first 2) to win a marginal victory. I didn't. The Italians did however, vacate the hex, but I never had the chance to occupy it. I still think therefore that this scenario is flawed. The victory hexes are not clearly defined anywhere - this forum is the first time I've read a definition of them - shouldn't this be in the manual ?
Anyway, at least I can move on now.
