Allied awards

Post by Rudankort »

Hello All!

It was noted that the british George Cross award did not quite fit. I wanted to check with you guys and get feedback on all the new awards in Allied Corps, so that we could fix them all in one go. So, here is the list of allied awards (for each nation in the same order in which they appear on a unit).

GB:

Distinguished Conduct Medal
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distinguis ... duct_Medal

The George Cross
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Cross

Victoria Cross
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victoria_Cross

US:

Silver Star
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silver_Star

Distinguished Service Cross
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distinguis ... ed_States)

Medal of Honor (often erroneously referred to as the Congressional Medal of Honor)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medal_of_Honor

What needs to be fixed here? If any award does not fit the game, what to replace it with?

Thanks!

Being of British birth I was always under the impression the George Cross was for group or non front line heroism, I believe Wikipedia supports this.
In my opinion Military Cross would be best, then DCM and then VC. But I think they look great anyway.

I play AC in german version and the texts of the medals are missing. Normally when the german localisation is missing the english texts are displayed but not for the medals.
Missing text for the awards - Look at "Ausgezeichnet mit:."

Is this a problem of Beta-Version?

As it says in the wikipedia link...Primarily a civilian award, really.

The problem with the British awards, in this game, is that they are awarded to units and not individuals as they would be in reality. I think the closest units got to bravery awards were battle honours displayed on regimental colours. Which is not quite the same thing. Having Victoria Crosses handed out in this way would be too "clunky".

Isn't that the same situation for axis forces as well though? :?

I have always visualised it as one of the unit 'heroes' getting the award.

I don't have too much problem with the awards/medals as they are, however I did notice that the blue max or German style medal still shows on the unit display card. Why that would bother me more than the other stuff I have no idea :?
