making editor maps available for ipad

Post by DocMogs »

Hi,

i've made a multiplayer map with force selection on the editor. I have the files in mydocuments/BBCBA/multiplayer and can port them across to another PC.

What do i do so that my buddy, who plays on an ipad, can get those files and get them to work on his tablet?

Can't seem to find the info required to do this last bit.

Its obviously possible via ortana and fast and sneaky. Here's hoping its a simple process.

Hey DocMogs...

This looks a lot worse than it actually is, so bear with me, and take it step by step...

1. Start the BA Editor
2. You should be in a menu that asks you to "Select a Campaign for the Scenario"
3. Choose your new campaign
4. Then click the green lizard Slitherine button (bottom left) and wait a few seconds
5. Press the red X (bottom right) and exit the BA app
6. When you open your \MULTIPLAYER folder, you should see a new file called YOUR_CAMPAIGN_NAME.CPF... This is your compressed Campaign
7. Do you have a Dropbox account? Or some other place where you can share files? If you don't, then click here http://db.tt/dNK7zcbo to open a Dropbox account (it's free, and this link will get both of us an extra 500MB of space  )
8. Copy the new YOUR_CAMPAIGN_NAME.CPF file into the \Public folder of your Dropbox account
9. Now you need to create a .LST text file to point at your shared .CPF
10. As a shortcut, use one of mine and adapt it... Cut and paste http://bit.ly/gjs44tourney into your browser and hit return
11. This should show you a text file that looks something like this...

Code: Select all

FILENAME GJS44_TOURNEY.LST

[0]
NAME GJS44_TOURNEY.CPF
SHOWNAME GJS44 v1.3 Tournament
DESC Four best maps from GJS'44, rebalanced for an open tournament
MAKER GottaLove88s
TYPE 1
SIZE 7.0
#URL http://dl.dropbox.com/u/31228617/BA/GJS44/CPF/GJS44_TOURNEY.CPF?dl=1
12. Open the text file in your favourite text/code editor and change it as follows...
- Change GJS44_TOURNEY.LST to your YOUR_CAMPAIGN_NAME.LST
- Change GJS44_TOURNEY.CPF to your YOUR_CAMPAIGN_NAME.CPF
- Change GJS44 v1.3 Tournament to a short name for your campaign
- Change the description (DESC) to a one line description of your campaign
- For MAKER, swap my nickname for yours
- Swap the filesize for the size of your compressed folder (in MB)
- Then copy the long http://dl.dropbox.com/etc,etc,etc to wherever you put your compressed campaign folder in Dropbox (I don't want to tell a probable IT whiz how to suck microchips, so pls ask how to do that, if it doesn't make sense)
13. Finally save your edited text file as CAMPAIGN_NAME.LST, again into your Dropbox \Public folder
14. Open your Dropbox account, look into your public folder, right click your .LST file and choose "Copy Public Link"
15. Email that link to your mate
16. Your mate then has to follow the usual way to download a user campaign, pasting the link you just sent him (copy from your email, then press the + in BA's download window)

Et voila... That should work... I promise, it's much easier than it looks...

Don't hesitate to come back with any questions... And post a link/screenshots of your new campaign so the rest of us can play it too...

Good luck!

This step is impossible for me for some reason. I click editor, it asks me "select a campaign for the scenario" but other than the list of campaigns (one of which is the one i want to share) there are 3 buttons. A symbol of the UK, a tick and an X. If i click the UK symbol i start a new campaign, if i click the tick then it asks me to select one of the existing scenarios or a new one, clicking the X sends me back out to teh BA main screen.
Is there a plug in i'm missing in order to compress the BA file?

IIRC you will not see the button to build a campaign package unless you have DEBUGMODE 1 set in your user.txt file.

so i've followed the instructions above and it all worked.

I was able to play this game via hotseat using the commands.

The problem was when i tried to get my friend to play the scenario, neither of us can see the other players challenge.

Do you have any idea why this would be?

When i put up the scenario i can see my challenge with the name of the battle which i can accept via hotseat but my friend can't see it. When he does it the same happens.

Is it possible that you don't have the same versions? I think the game will hide maps where the CRCs don't tally.

Basically a way of creating a (pseudo) unique value which represents the content of a file. So basically the game checks whether the map files are identical.

so i've made sure that we both have the same files from the same LST but the program still shows nothing over the server even though we can both see the challenge on our own computer/ipad.

i could even see the file on MY ipad when i fired up battle academy yesterday.

So it seems its something across profiles?

I basically made the map from scratch so when you save it you get a BAM file.

I edited someone else BSF and lighting files and put them into the same scenario folder. There is no excel "squad" file in the folder, just a text1, campaign and maker file.

I have no idea how to correct this and its starting to really bug me.

What am i missing?

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/51794013/BA/FEFF.LST

this is the LST file if anyone wants to help.

Ah - I knew I had had someone with a similar issue. Is there any chance there is a space in the folder name for the campaign? This is not allowed and does seem to cause this specific behaviour (e.g. shows up in the campaign list, but fails to show in the game lists).

I will try and add a check to warn people at the initial stage.

Cheers

in the campaign text file the 2 scenario names were on different lines, is this the thing you are talking about?

No - the name of the actual folder that the campaign is in. E.g. if it is called Doc Mogs then it won't work, but DocMogs will.

so i tried taking a different campaign and porting in the new map to see if that works

if i don't have the map installed i can see his game.

As soon as i download the map his disappears. I haven't done anything to the map since uploading it so i don't know why there is a communication issue.

This is beginning to get really frustrating.

Is it something to do with force selection?

Do i need fixed units or something

I've grabbed you campaign and am looking into it. It doesn't seem to have any obvious issues so it is definitely pretty strange.

Hopefully have an answer as to the issue after the long weekend.

Hey pip,

thanks for all your help. I've got it to work across platforms by using someone else's scenario and renaming it.

So don't go to any more trouble.

Currently testing it and once it seems balanced enough i'll post it.
