Move but Can't Attack?

Post by Omnius »

I am playing the 2.10 GS version and I was trying out the 1939 SnapKrieg instructions, Section 148, just to get a better understanding of taking down Poland quickly and perhaps doing in Denmark early as well. I was doing just fine until I got to moving XIV Panzer Korps. I could indeed move XIV Pz to the hex north of Lodz but could not attack. It seemed that any time I moved XIV Pz where it revealed Grupa Kutno it could not attack. I carefully counted out the MP's to see that XIV Pz used all 6 of it's MP's amnd no more.

Why can't I attack with XIV Pz after it moved? I tried many times and tried moving it short of Grupa Kutno and it seemed like wherever I tried to move XIV Pz that revealed Grupa Kutno I couldn't attack, but if I moved to somewhere that Grupa Kutno didn't get revealed I could attack. I read the manual and it said nothing about not being able to attack, only that the range had to be 1 and the two Polish units adjacent to where XIV Pz ends up in the hex north of Lodz certainly fulfill that condition.

I even looked at the change log and didn't see any change made to explain why I can move XIV Pz to the hex north of Lodz but then can't attack any adjacent unit. I sure hope someone can explain this unexpected situation or if it is a bug that it is going to be corrected. I know I saw something about adding Grupa Kutno to make it more difficult to take down Poland quickly but it didn't say anything about that being able to preclude XIV Px from attacking after movement.

You can't attack if you end up next to a unit you reveal as you move, use the INF to spot the unit first and then the Panzers can attack

unikey,
Thanks for the info as regards not being able to attack when you reveal a hidden unit. I did find that when I first revealed Grupa Kutno with an infantry unit then I couldn't move the XIV Pz to the hex north of Lodz. It almost looks like I was able to exceed my movement allowance to get to that hex north of Lodz when I revealed Grupa Kutno with XIV Pz.

I checked the Terrain Effects Movement Chart and could not find anything about a river movement penalty. I know there's a river combat penalty. Is there a river movement penalty that correctly stopped XIV Pz from moving into the hex north of Lodz? If so it sure would be nice if it were listed on the Terrain Effects Chart.

I think its because a hidden unit doesn't exert a zone of control but once its spotted it does so the panzer doesn't have enough movement points, but I'm not sure

unikey,
I do see that the hidden units don't exert ZOC when the program shows us possible moves, so that we can't guess where unseen enemy units are by where we can't move. I think it's okay to not allow units to attack if they move further than they should, but for units that don't exceed their movement allowance they should be allowed to attack unveiled hidden units they end up adjacent to.
