error on startup

Just to compound my misery now the game won't work at all!

I get a windows box with this text which is the same as the error log file

Sorry you are having problems. Is this repeatable? Can you mail a saved game where it occurs? Have you tried re-installing in case something has become corrupt on your PC.

I took the easy route and installed in a different folder. the problem is the PC is old.
I am writing this on my shiny new Vista box, Commander works OK.
