Persian Gulf

Post by davetheroad »

Having just managed to lose Egypt as the allies in PBEM match my thoughts turned to Iraq and Persia.
There is no way of reinforcing those countries if the axis try to grab the gulf area although historically forces were moved via the Persian Gulf.
Perhaps what the game needs is a few hexes to simulate the head of the gulf and a port/city. However there is no way of getting troops there as you need a transfer loop. You could mod the map to have a line of sea hexes fom the Red Sea but it looks bad and anyway you need a way of sending units direct from the Atlantic.
Was representing the Gulf considered during game development and if rejected why?

The reason the map is the way it is was to provde the best playable area in the least number of hexes.

I think this is an oversight. It was never really considered how the Allies would reinforce the middle east if Egypt fell.

One of the flaws in the game is how easy it is for the (human) Axis player to take these.
I suspect the easy solution is to reduce supply range but add something as a bonus for sea supply to the Allies, and add Commonwealth units to the defense of Persia and Iraq - representing Indian and other Pacific forces redeployed.

Well it is easy to take Iraq and Persia, but it certainly isn't fast. It took me forever to get there, and of course the rude shock once you arrive is that it takes just as long to bring your excess units back out.

A sea route, abstracted if need be, would be nice---something similar to the "portals" that take you from the Med to the Red Sea to the Atlantic. And, with ownership of the capital of Persia being the pre-requisite for using said portal.
Chance favours the prepared mind.
