Bored of playing in Europe

Post by kme37158 »

How about some suggestions for any developers out there for some new locations for games to take place.

I cannot remember the amount of times I have battled through Europe from one end to the other all wars must have taken place here.

They can be fictitious or real so let's put some suggestions down. Before any says there are other eras places they are still quite limited with shogun era in Japan and the American civil war.

Hmmm

Manchu invasion of China 17th century
Boer War(would probobly feel like a Euroean war though)
18th and 19th century colonial wars in Indian sub-continent
Plains/ Indian wars 19th century US (would need to be a detailed 1 unit equals 1 man to be interesting)
Cossack colonization/conquest of Siberia and all the xxx-istans within.
Any wargame set in the Hyborian age of REH :)

we often discuss this, but sadly the truth is that the sales volumes speak for themselves and WW2 generally outsells everything else by a significant factor. It's a hard call for a developer to put 12/24 months of work in only to discover that he chose the wrong setting. we are actively trying to encourage alternatives, eg WW1, Ancients, ACW and some yet to be announced but its not an easy call

Colonial sounds like an interesting era. Could give a big scope for units and locations. China and the East is missed a lot by us we are very Western centric and very little is taught about the history of the East

Aye. China during WWII had turbulent life. In fact , China was torn apart to several factions for each interest group. Japan/USA/Imperialist/Communist.

Would be lovely to see that part of the war. Including Russia skirmishes with Japan or so.

India has had a few skirmishes with its neighbours as well China and Pakistan. Slightly off topic but I never hear about foreign strategy titles. Is it only England and America who make strategy games. I know there was a French company that used to make some in the past.

There is some pseudo-turn based strategy with some rpg elements. Romance of Three Kingdom or ROTK. But honestly, is more fictional then historical.. or tactical on that matter. Still , its based on history.

On the topic point. We really need to see Japan rise in some DLC or some new Panzer Corps.. erm Japan-Mec/Wanzer/Corps since 1935 :P
HA.. Wanzer. Front Mission 3 anyone?
