Armoured cavalry in V2 - what advantages are there?

Post by nigelemsen »

My initial reading of the POAs appears that you need two armour classes difference to gain the +poa. Given the extra cost of armoured cavalry over protected cavalry is there any real advantage to them?

Given a bit of pet army (timurids) syndrome not as good as v1 going on here :) because before fighting majority protected infantry the timurid cavalry gained an amour advantage melee.

Would be nice to know advantages for paying for armoured cavalry.

Cheers

I might be wrong - it's happened before (1973) but i'm of the opinion a SECOND POA cannot be gained by superior armour, and so Armoured vs Protected cav will still give a +POA, but armoured sword vs protected no-weapon would still only give you a +POA, not ++

So what rule is trying to state to get a ++ you need to have 2 armour class difference. Otherwise you are on +poa. Thanks. I had heard they where trying to stop barbarian foot from just imploding against SSw/armoured romans. Byron and are going to behaving a practice v2 game. 5x3 table with byron bringing cav heavy late roman vs my elephant heavy sassinad persians... Could be messy with the new end of world/table edge rules.

The better armoured POA states that - it's does not apply if the is only one level of advantage AND it would not bring the overall net POA above +

So if you are 2 levels better, you get it , or one level and net level POA ... Giving you a plus

The change in v2 is that better armour will not give you ++POA if you already have +POA, unless you are two or more armour levels better.
So Armoured Skilled Sword legionaries vs Protected Warband are no longer ++POA, only + (for the Skilled sword)
But heavily armoured skilled sword knights against Protected swordsmen would get the ++POA.
