[NFO] Using Total Commander's FTP client

Post by cothyso »

Using Total Commander's FTP client is simple:

a) open TC and click on TC's left browsing area to select it (as any new FTP connection will use the currently selected panel)
b) in TC's top file menu, press Net -> FTP Connect (CTRL + F to open it directly)
c) on the right vertical buttons list, press New Connection to set up a new FTP connection
d) in Session edit area enter FoG Beta FTP , in Host name:[port] enter devel.matrixgames.com , in User Name enter FOGBetaTester , in Password edit field enter a space (as there's no password needed nothing should have been needed in here, but entering a space in here will stop TC ask for a password as it would if you would leave it blank), press the OK button
e) the new FTP connection you've just set up appears now in your TC's FTP connections list you've opened at step b), double click the FoG Beta FTP, or select it and press Connect from the right vertical buttons list
f) now in TC's left panel you are browsing Matrix'es FoG Beta FTP folder structure, double click FieldOfGloryBetaTesters folder (or select it and press Enter), to move inside that folder
g) on TC's right panel, browse anywhere on you're computer's folder structure where you want to have the FTP files downloaded to (you can switch between the panels using Tab key)
h) in TC's left panel, select the file you want to download, and drag it and release it over TC's right panel (or select it and press F5)
i) a new Download popup should appear, just press OK to start downloading the file
j) after the download has finished, press the FTP disconnect button ) on the upper side, under the file menu, to disconnect you TC's left panel from FoG Beta's FTP server
k) you can repeat steps a) to j) (without c) and d), which are needed first time only in order to set up the FoG Beta FTP connection) any time you need to download another new FoG(U) beta client

Or you can just google "total commander using FTP" and read or watch any of the tutorials floating around the internet (for example, you can watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQVmQXrM5X0 from 3:42 onward).

Cheers,
dan

As long as the archive downloaded ok, and it is unpacked without errors, then the problem is only related to where you've unpacked it.

Unpack the archive you've downloaded directly into a folder on your Desktop. You might not have write rights on that folder C root folder.

All I did was download the file (just using Explorer) and unzip to desktop. Everything was easy and it seems to be working fine.

Ok tried that and windows comes up with the message " FTP site cannot be viewed in Windows Explorer" Houston we have a problem  Im using Windows 7 64bit HP pavilion G6 Note book. Ive never had a problem downloading anything from the Internet and to be honest im really puzzled as to why the Beta wont work on my computer. Is there any chance of HTTP link to get this going as that worked fine when i copy and pasted to my browser .Then extracted using WinRar to my Cdrive and no problems .I think their is an error loading with Total Commander as everything seems ok until in attempt to open from Play screen which takes me to the next window and then all i get is a blue window. Seems to be something not down loading.I will try again later and attempt screen shots to show you whats going on.As i have stated im no computer expert but seem to be able to get along fine with most downloads :?

Umm..there was something...let me check...

FTP root at devel.matrixgames.com
To view this FTP site in Windows Explorer: press Alt, click View, and then click Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer.

When I follow the download link I see the directory link but I also get the above msg. If I ignore the msg and just click on the download link, I get to two files and just click and download.

If that goes well, then it must be something else I would think, but like you, I'm the click-and-it-works-or-am-pooched type!!

I've uploaded anothe file on Matrix'es FTP: fog(u)_2012.12.19_01_v1.8.10.664_brc3.sfv. You need to download it next to the fog(u)_2012.12.19_01_v1.8.10.664_brc3.rar or fog(u)_2012.12.19_01_v1.8.10.664_brc3.exe, then double-click this file in Total Commander. It will verify the integrity of your downloaded file. If TC will say it's ok, then the archive is downloaded OK, and the problem lies somewhere else.

If you're experiencing problems with running the build itself, after unpacking, please provide the console.log and output_log.txt, as requested.

Ok here we go again.Used TC as directed moved file into Cdrive in to a new foder which i named Fog Beta. Attempted to extract the file with Win Rar and this is the message i got. Sorry i couldnt get it to copy and paste but copied the problems to clip board wherever that is? CRC Failed FoG_V1.810.664_Data\Bundles\armiesAF.unity3d
Unexpected end to Archive. I really thought this would be a simple process and once i knew how to operate TC then the rest should have been easy.Has everybody else managed to download the program Dan ?Or am i the only one that cant seem to get it to work. I am getting very frustrated with the whole thing and i see there will be a brc4 .Is this going to be up soon as this brc3 is totally no functional for me?

Looks like you might as well wait for RC4. All the MP games have been deleted.

bRC4 doesn't have anything to do with this. You seem to have network/ISP problems, most probably severe TCPIP packet losses, which re causing the FTP connection to be repeatedly terminated, corrupting your downloaded file.

Anyway, we've set up a new http access to the Matrix'es FTP site, and you should also be able to download the build via http. Please check bRC3's thread, as I've updated it (until bRC4 will be available).
