Swiss Keils and Artillery

Post by timmy1 »

In another thread there has been discussion of what the Swiss keils did to avoid taking casulties from Artillery. I think we have now reached agreement that the level FoGR models the need to stay tight and deep for the keil to be effective led to the keil being vulnerable to artillery. I think what they tried to do was move fast and obliquely so as to not take too many rounds. A good example is Novara where they also used a cornfield to block the artillery line of sight. However even then they lost 700 men in 3 minutes to what is effectively siege artillery.
