Choosing where to install, my choice or the PCs!

Greetings,
My first post here.
I’ve just discovered Panzer Corps and have got the disk.

I have two HDDs on my PC; ‘C’ and’ D’. I install all my games on the ‘D’ drive in dedicated folders.

I’m trying to install Panzer Corps it in a folder of my choice ‘PanzerCorps’ on my ‘D’ drive. I created the folder and tried to install. However the setup programme does not give me any choice as to where it will go. I cannot select any drive or folder whatsoever. It informs me that it is going onto the ‘D’ drive and that’s it. No sub folder or anything. It also changes the HDD icon in the ‘My Computer’ window to an Iron Cross!
The only option I am given is to choose where the shortcut folder will be.

Two problems; How to install in the folder of my choice and how restore the HDD icon in the 'My Computer' window.

Solutions please Good People.

PS I'm not the brightest bulb in the chandelier when it comes to PCs!

Hi welcome,

You can install Panzer Corps without using the default path. The only thing I suggest is never to make a single level folder like C: \Panzer Corps. Make it for example C:\Slitherine or C:\Games.

About the icon... press right mouse button over the icon and select "Properties". Select a tab named "Shortcut". Now press "Change Icon". Select the icon you want and press "OK". Press "Apply" and "OK". That happens a lot, with Windows XP, and specially when you install and uninstall very often. If you use one of those Windows registry cleaners they also help in messing the things.

thanks for the prompt reply. Viewed your link but not much help I'm afraid.
Here's the sequence when I try installing.
1. Insert the CD. Auto runs. OK
2. Welcome window. OK.
3. Accept Licience agreement. OK.
4. Request for serial number. OK
5. Shortcut folder. Slitherine\Panzer Corps. OK.
6. New Window, "Ready to install".
'The installer now has enough information to install etc.
Install folder D*.
Shortcut folder Slitherine\Panzer Corps.'
* This is the HDD ident. and not a sub folder.

At no point am I asked where I would like the game placed. Obviously there is a missing stage between items 4 and 5 which sets the install location.

Where did you bought the boxed edition? What version?
The installer always give the chance to choose where to install unless it's the Afrika Korps expansion and there's a Panzer Corps installed in your system.

I bought the game through Play. Brand new. Don't know if it's significant but it was posted from Athens in Greece!
I had a copy of Allied General installed but have now removed it.

Re my last Should have added 'com' after play but had to remove it before I could send.

I'm not familiarized with the "Play" version, but I've never seen any Panzer Corps installer doing this. Could you please check if this happens in another computer?

Current state is this;
Tried installing on son's PC ,I was able to create and start install of game. However it failed with the following error
"C:\Games\Graphics\Animations\ATlight2_smallpng
A decompression error has occured#7. File CRC mismatch:data. Integriry error" I don't this this is relevant, probably some graphics card incompatability.

I then went back to my own PC, physically removed the 'D' HHD and deleted any files I thought might be associated with the game install.

I tried installing again but was not able to select my own location, the programme failed because it said it could not find drive 'D'!

I think this is one I'm not going to solve so I have resigned myself to having to accept what the game wants and install it directly onto my second drive. Putting my drive back and taking it from there.
Incidently Play is a mail order company and not a manufacturer of games.

I installed the game using the default settings on my 'D' drive. All went well. Downloaded and installed the 1.11 Patch. All OK. Tried running the game only to get a message "CRC check failed. Please try to reinstall the game". No idea what that is.
Uninstalled and tried with just the unpatched game. Same result.

After four days I am of the opinion that Panzer Corps is not for me. Pity, it looks great.

Most CRC errors are caused by the game not being able to check the serial on Windows registry or by a bad path.
Do you have Windows 7 installed? If yes please,press "Windows key"+"R" to open the Run window. Type regedit. Try to locate this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Slitherine\PanzerCorps
Over the "Slitherine" branch export to a file.
Don't post here. PM me instead. That file will have your serial, and that can't be public.
And also tell me the exact path of your Panzer Corps installation.
What Internet Security package you have? Are you running from a Windows login account with administrative privileges?

This is a different CRC error. This one means that there was an issue when installing. Try to installa gain, but this time with your Internet Security package disable.

I've got it up and running.

I went through the registry, folder by folder and removed several entries associated with either Slitherine or Panzer Corps.
I reinstalled the game without and difficulties.
