Overlaps again

In my game last night the following occurred:

A BG of LH (L) charged and just caught one of my slinger BG's (S), my LF just held (fragmented) and in my net move I charged a BG of cavalry lancers (C)into the rear rank of the LH but not as a flank charge

I am pretty sure the charge was legal as I didn't hit a base that was in frontal combat. I couldn't conform the cavalry because of the slingers.

The question was how many bases and of what fight in the melee?

In the end we decided that four bases of slingers fought four bases of light horse and two bases of cavalry fought one of light horse.

Were we right?
