The sound of silence on a MacBook Pro

Dear Sirs,

I have been enjoying playing Field of Glory Digital for a month of so now. Apart from the RealBasic plugin popups problem (see other threads) the game seems to work well for scenario games. However, I was recently playing the scenario Castillon (1453AD) and encountered a small problem. Gunpowder weapons were silent! All other troops and situations made appropriate sound effects but gunpowder weapons killed silently.

I have not played other scenarios with gunpowder so I do not yet know if the sound problem is universal.

Is there a fix I should be applying to fully restore sound or should I just ignore the problem? Please note that I have a MacBook Pro (retina display) running Mountain Lion 10.8.2

Any advice will be gratefully received.
