Best Islamic army?

Post by Scrumpy »

Out of interest, which Islamic army is considered to be the best all-round army?

IMO needs a good player otherwise it is quite ordinary and you'd be better off with a different choice - you have the ability to do well with it, I don't :(

Ottomans
Iqaylids
Buyids
Ghaznaivds
Seljuks

Fatimids can forge a similar list to some of these.

Will be interesting if v2 makes any of the iberian muslims more competitive.

Mamluks are pretty good too.

And under V2, with a smaller table, Arab Conquest will probably do well.

I suspect the Ottomans will take a bit of a drop in poularity due to the the V2 army changes. So that probably leaves Seljuks or Ghaznavids as the favourites for all round performance but, as Pete says, the Arab Conquest could be strong in theme and on a smaller table.

If you want something more aggressive go for one of the lancers armies, Abbassid, Ummayad etc. My personal favourite is the Ayubid, which can either be mainly lancers with some Ghilman or mainly Ghilman with some lancers.

Ilkhanids are quite handy IMO, and under v2 the drilled cavalry option for the ordinary horse archers may be useful.

I dont know quite why, but I just have this funny feeling that Christian Nubian might not be Islamic, Dave.

Even if you regard them as "affiliated" I think the restriction on Superior BGs will reduce their effectiveness.
