Prestige and Slot functions for MP maps

Post by Mordan »

Hello,

I would like to know how are slots allocated in a MP map. Same with prestige.

I don't want to play 40 times a map before i get some kind of magical intuition on how it works. In order to plan strategy, i need to know these values.

Biggest issue are slots. Sometimes I have 2000 prestige and no slots.

It seems controlling objectives gives you more slots? is it true?

BTW in MP, infantry should worth half the slots used by tanks. People just spam the best units, it gets boring. Elephants, Su-122.

Opening any of these multiplayer maps through the editor will give information on slot allocation as well as prestige settings. In fact one of the reasons we don't have hidden prestige mechanics or awards in multiplayer maps is precisely because of this, the 'unknown' factor. A glance at a scenario's Side Parameter should tell you everything you need to know.
Control of objectives does not affect amount of units available.

Increasing infantry potency is something we considered before, but it's actually been proven that infantry are the most efficient unit in multiplayer scenarios, meaning they are already almost too powerful. They might still need a little help in extended campaign play, but they definitely have their place in multiplayer.

Finally, while it is true that many multiplayer maps have seemingly too much prestige, we recognize that never every player is a min/max expert who knows exactly what to buy to be cost effective. We like to give room for experimentation, room for elite reinforcements, and even room for error. That said, prestige values across all the default multiplayer maps are quite well spread, so finding one with very high or even very low prestige is just a matter of getting to know the maps. :)

hello!

thx for your answer!

I don't complain about having too much prestige actually. I complain about not knowing before hand how much prestige I will get next turn and the slots that will be available.

As a planning General, you would seemingly be able to know the potential size of your army in the future right? Players shouldn't have to open the scenario editor to know this information. be it campaign or MP.

I agree infantry clogs/chokes the attacking enemy and thus prevent them from advancing. Anyways my post is not about this issue.

It is about the following. In Iron Cross Red Star, I had 0 free slots during my turn. My opponent destroys a tank during his turn. At my turn, I still have 0 slots. Why?

I'm going to check the scenario editor right away.

EDIT : I guess the answer is that when you lose auxiliary units, you don't gain a slot. So in the end, it is BETTER, MUCH BETTER to lose core units so you can buy new ones.

The number of slots you have is a constant. It does not change in the course of the battle. If you lose a unit, you get one more free slot. Current number of free slots is shown when you hover Purchase button.

Prestige added per turn is also a constant. Normally you see how much you gain when you hit End Turn. But in MP this is not so easy, because the pause between the turns is big, and I agree that this information could be shown better. I'll try to improve this aspect in future patches. Most likely, I'll add per-turn prestige to the tooltip showing the current amount of prestige (when you hover prestige number in the UI).

could you please also add in the combat details the percentage of chance for a retreat/bounce if possible. Maybe not since it depends on the dice rolls. thx. But maybe I'm not looking at it correctly.

IMO another most crucial information.

What we tried to implement in the Balkans Multiplayer Campaign (see relevant post and also at matrixgames forum forums/tm.asp?m=3169324) is a little trick:

Usually you start with a slot or so free. So you can easily calculate. If no slots are available from the begining, then most likely you won't get any until it is too late! :D
