Hi gents,
Will you play the battles only with your core force or will exist the possibility to have some support units attached for specific battles? Something along the lines of the Steel panthers support units that you can purchase prior to each battle in campaigns? And, in that case, will the support units be related to denarii or fame or what?
Gracias
Miki
Non core force support units?

Thanks Iain
Thats a quick response.
BTW, which will be unit scale? Will it be "companies" or "squads", a bit abstracted as in the 4X series? Or will they be cohorts? When playing CoW or Sparta-GOT I imagine that each man in a squad represents 10 men, so each units is more or less cohort size (or equivalent). This way I get a strong feel of miniature wargaming... and play greater battles for free then!
Gracias

Hi Iain,
The scale almost fits perfectly.
Marian and Caesar cohorts were made of 480 men. Each cohort made of six centurias of 80 men.
Later, in the second half of the first century, the First Cohort have 800 men, divided in only five centurias. Cohorts 2-10 are maintained at almost 500 men. At this time they created a Legionary Alae of 120 horse mounted legionaries. That gives 5.500 men for a full Imperial Legion, iirc.
Saludos

1) No reinforcements - all troops start deployed though you can hold back a reserve and maps are much bigger than previous games.
2) We did have it that when you lost you had to replace your men and fight on, but you gained experience, but this has changed. Now ehen you lose, it forces you to refight the battle. There are some battles where teh objective is not to win, merely to survive for a period of time or kill X enemy before you die.
3) The gameplay is different to both. There is no campaign map, insted a series of linked missions. The closest comparison is a game called Shadow of the Horned Rat that came out 5-10 years ago.
4) Yes you can deploy your troops before battle, but you can now also give waypoints for them to follow once teh battle starts. These can be overriden in battle by issuing new orders.
5) You can run away, but this is really only a way to exit teh game as you must complete each mission to continue.

There is also another German game that is close to Hornet rat but I don't remeber the name...(I am getting old, remeber?)
