Editor load disabled

Post by enric »

When you're editing a map, now Save (com-S) seems to work, but if want to load again and press the load button:

The name of the current map is selected (great!)
The name is also selected in the list (great!)
The load button is disabled (ooooohhhh)
You need to click on the list, on the already selected line to enable the button. So you need to do the same that already had to do in the latest version.

While this is a bug, I'm tempted to leave it in. You're much more likely to save a map you are working on than to want to load your old file back over it. And even with a warning, it would look very very similar to the save+confirm process, so would be easy to mess up. This makes it much harder to accidentally lose work.

Cheers

The problem here is that you come to this window with different "intentions", e.g., if want to reload the same saved map it's all right, as you states, this, in fact, is a "reload saved" option that many apps have. But if you want to load another map, has no sense the default name. And, if you come here because you want to save a version with another name before making risking changes then you, as usual, think that adding a, say "2", to the default name, you will have a save version, BUT NO, in fact you're changing the original file name.

We can be used to work in many different ways but I think UI should as logical as possible and that the most usual actions should be the more easy to do.
Saving the work while working using cmd-s is perfect, and one of the most universal shortcut.
Loading (Open) action should give the user access to load a file, by default, in the current directory, but not suggesting anything.
Saving As is a very important option when doing a work like creating maps, the most usual approach here is offer the current name as default on the current directory, then just changing a character you may easily get a saved copy, that noy becomes the current file living the old one intact.
