Proposed Suggestion for Editor File Management

Post by Old_Warrior »

FYI to you designers. I sent this off to Pip yesterday. The GUI for the file management is too mentally taxing for the average user (and esp. for a guy like me that has suffered a mild stroke). My goal is to simplify it so that files do not accidentally get overrun, er :D overwritten:

Pip,

The File Manager UI for the Editor for BA is ripe for disaster. Instead of having it as it is now consider doing this:

1. Have a Save Button. This saves the mission that is open. No need to have to choose the file name each time.

2. Have a Load Button. A list of filenames assoicated with the campaign folder is listed (as it is now).

3. Have a "Save As" Button. This allows the user to save the mission as something else.

It may add to the GUI a bit but it will save the designer from accidentally overwriting his own files. Currently it is a "mental gymnastics course" for the user.

If I left something out let me know. The above are the main reasons why the user would do any file management during an Editor session.

I know that he cannot get to this for the next build/update but I am hoping that the Editor will have a much simpler format. The user should not have to exit the map section to just save a file. While the file is highlighted when you go to save it you have to manually select it each time in order to save it. A simple "Save File" button would remove any possibility that the user could accidentally overwrite another mission in his campaign.

My second choice would be for the filename to appear in the "Save File" name field so that the file you are working on is ALREADY listed and you do not have to manually pick it from the list.

I may be the only one to note this but I think that the current format is too complex for folks that may want to dabble in the scenario design arena.
