Basing MF - How do you do it?
DBM had regular (drilled) MF using 4 figs per base and irregular (undrilled) with 3 per base. FOG says 3 or 4 figs per MF base and leaves it up to you to differentiate between drilled and undrilled. I've decided to rebase my entire collection using a laser cut wood base. I'm struggling with what to do with the MF.
So, how are you all doing it now? If you had to re-base them, would you do it any differently? And, why?

I'm rebasing my Khmer MF. I'm doing 3 per base but doing a number of double bases with 6 per base. I suggest that distinguishing drilled from undrilled is best done by the 'orderliness' of figures on the base.

Re: Basing MF - How do you do it?
For me 4 MF to a base means they originated in DBM days (or before) and I've been too lazy to rebase them. Any MF I paint now is 3 to a base, especially as it helps to distinguish MF from HF where the troops are also used in Fog R.
Re: Basing MF - How do you do it?
My original plan was to do 4 per base for "horde" armies like Ancient British and Persians, and 3 per base for more compact armies like Medieval European ones.
But in practice it turns out I just like having lots of troops on display so have used 4 for everything.

I'm never going to play DbM again, so wouldn't consider what they need. But have you considered doing a mix of 3 and 4 to a base. If you play FoG it doesn't matter. If you play DbA you can 'front rank' with 3 or 4 depending on their status.
I'd do that if I was in mixed mood, otherwise (and give MUCH more power to) I do what looks good.

The digital copy of version 2 is coming out in 3 days. Anyone know if there is any change to basing in V2?

Basing changes were not addressed in the Beta testing and I haven't seen anything in the announcement of changes that implies any have been introduced since. The digital copy of version 2 is coming out in 3 days. Anyone know if there is any change to basing in V2?
Re: Basing MF - How do you do it?
I doubt there would be any change of basing for purely cosmetic effect - that would be a surefire way to either pee off players, or (more likely) get yoursefl ignored.
Reclassifying particular troop types from MF to either HF or LF i.e. an actual behavioural change might be plausible - there was some talk about this for Roman Auxilia and Hellensitic Thureophoroi/"Peltasts", but I think I heard it had been dropped. Also some talk about encouraging steppe shooty light horse to be taken as unarmoured cav, but I got the impression that was just about making the cav a bit beeter in the sklrmishing and not getting shot to bits stakes, rather than actually removing the current classification options from players.

Everything is now based on 9.5"×7.31"sized bases, in line with the priority now being given to the ipad format in FoG.bbotus wrote:The digital copy of version 2 is coming out in 3 days. Anyone know if there is any change to basing in V2?
If you can buy loads of ipads and stick all of your troops on them, even better !

OK, so now I'm giving up minis and will start collecting bases. Can't afford to do both.If you can buy loads of ipads and stick all of your troops on them, even better !
