iversonjm has won the 2nd KO tournament!

Post by stockwellpete »

Rules of the competition

This is a knock-out competition - you have to win to stay in. All matches will be played with "Fog of War" and "Double Moves" on. You must use the army that you have nominated throughout the competition. You may change the make-up of your chosen army before each match. Players must adhere to the points allocation they have been given throughout the tournament (I will be taking some statistics from the results).

Either player can initiate the challenge by posting the details of the match, including the password, in the designated thread. This is important with regards to any adjudication process that may be required in cases where matches do not get started or where they are not completed in time. It is also advised that a PM should be sent to your opponent as well. Please remember to set your challenge to "any book" and to the number of points appropriate to the larger army in the match (some players will be playing with 400pts).

The winner of the match is responsible for posting the result.

Drawn matches will be dealt with as follows - if the game has been played to a conclusion and a draw is the result then a tie-breaker will come into operation. The tie-breaker will work like this - suppose a game ends with the score 27/26 to 31/29. The 27/26 player will be awarded the match as they have inflicted +2 damage over the army breaking point while suffering only +1 damage themselves. In drawn matches where the damage inflicted over the army breaking points is equal, a toss of the coin by myself will be used to decide which player progresses in the tournament.

If a match is drawn by agreement before all the turns have been completed, please let me know immediately and I will sanction a replay if there is sufficient time. If there is not enough time for a second game then the tie will be decided by toss of a coin.

Please try to start your games promptly and complete them as quickly as you can. I will be allowing somewhere between 10-14 days for each round (I will be able to judge this more easily once we get started). Players who fail to start their games, or who "disappear" during their games will run the risk of being "knocked out" of the competition by adjudication. I want to try and keep the competition as tightly run as possible - there will be some uneveness, I know, but I cannot have some players playing their quarter final matches while others are still playing in the first round.

Good luck to everyone - if you have any questions then I am only too happy to answer them.

PLEASE VISIT THE FORUM REGULARLY FOR UPDATED INFORMATION

Just a small point that has cropped up in one of the first round matches. If you are a 300pt or 350pt player drawn against a "newbie" who is playing with 400pts could you please ensure that you pick your army in the DAG with the setting at the appropriate 300pts or 350pts. If you set the DAG at 400pts to build your army in such circumstances it allows you extra numbers of certain troops that may give you an unfair advantage even though your army is still comprised of only 300pts or 350pts. Thanks.

Don't forget - there are still three "latecomer" slots available in the competition until Tuesday evening. So if you come across anyone who is interested please encourage them to join. I am particularly concerned to contact maharg25. He applied to join but did not pick an army so I could not include him in the draw. He has not yet picked up my PM. :?

If you look at the 4th post in this thread you will see the current state of play in all the matches. As soon as a challenge is posted the match is deemed to be "in progress" and I will update the results there as soon as players post them in the designated results thread.

You can help me by checking that the entry for your match is correct. If it is not please let me know.

OK. But this means the player with more points has to post the challenge, as the size of the challengers army automatically determines the points for the match.

I know what you mean, tullius, but I think the player with the smaller army can still initiate the challenge. I think the system tells you that your army is "incomplete", or something like that, but you are still able to proceed, I believe. Can someone else confirm that please? Cheers tullius.

Second "latecomer" entry is Ermolov (Medieval Cypriot, later) with 350pts. He will play petran1978 in the first round. :D

That just leaves Greetings44 without an opponent at the moment. But do not fear, Mr Greetings!! You will get an opponent, whatever happens now. If I have not got a third "latecomer" entry by the close of play tomorrow then I will enter the competition myself on Wednesday to make up the 64 players. I might renege on my promise to use the Pope-a-Dopes though, instead I might use my Crusader army instead.

The procedure that will allow a player with a smaller army to initiate a challenge is as follows . . .

i) set DAG to the appropriate army size (300 or 350 pts)
ii) once you have completed your selection and before you save the army alter the army size to that of your opponent (350 or 400pts)
iii) Save your army ignoring the message "This army is not ready to be used in battle".
iv) Issue your challenge in multi-player ignoring the message "The selected army only uses 300/350 of the maximum 350/400pts. Are you sure you want to issue the challenge?"
v) click on "issue challenge" button.

I hope that clarifies things a bit.

Well, we are half-way through the time allocated for the first round now and already we have the results from 17 of the 32 matches - so I think we can say that the competition is very much on schedule. if you are playing in one of the 15 unfinished matches please contact me if you have an opponent who disappears or starts playing very slowly (by PM if you prefer) and I will see what I can do to help.

The Second Round draw will take place next Saturday 22nd September at midday (UK time).
