How do I delete or remove messages or files

Once again I am in a confused situation as to how to delete or remove messages from some folder so I can get private messages. I have removed many many files from both new messages and saved messages and the damned folder is still full. I really love the way this "feature" for private email is designed because I can NEVER find this function! Would someone point me in the right direction? Please?

Thanks Chris, I have done this in two folders already before I posted on the forum, but the PM folder still shows full and I don't seem to be able to find the PM folder to delete the files.

Well...there is Inbox and Sent Messages
There is nothing else
The outbox is empty once a message is read...

Thank you Chris, as I suspected, there is a problem somewhere in the website with my folders. I have deleted lots of messages and it still shows up full. That is ONE axe to grind for me with them and the other is how you get shut out and put in the dungeon if you need help and cannot login to the site. How absurdly ridiculous..
