Hello everyone,

This is the second FOG KO tournament. It is sudden death, so you may only get one game. Most players will play with 350pts although this tournament will be handicapped for the first time. Beginners will play with 400pts while the very top players (probably 4 or 5) will play with only 300pts, FOW and DM must be on - and you can choose ANY army from ANY book (even if someone else has already chosen that army).

Please sign up below in this thread with your choice of army - I will need at least 16 players to make the competition viable. Closing date for entries will be next Sunday, September 9.

I will not be entering myself as I am anticipating that there may need to be a few adjudications regarding slow play or abandoned games - so it is probably best if I am neutral. Each round of the competition will last about two weeks so please don't enter if you are going away in September or October or if you cannnot usually complete a game in a fortnight.

It seems the tournament criteria are rather arbitrary. Why don't you clarify what a "new player" is to avoid further confusion.

Sorry, I didn't realise that I was writing a legal document. I have altered the wording now to "Beginners". Of course, this is still a subjective term - but, happily for me, I will be the one to decide if a player gets to play with 400pts or not.

IMPORTANT

If you are currently playing someone who is a relative newcomer to FOG then could you please let them know about the tournament and invite them to join in? It will benefit all the competitions and campaigns that we run if we can introduce newer players to what we do on the forum. It is also sometimes the case that these newer players are unaware of the forum so if you can direct them here that would be a big help too. Thanks.

You're not, you're running a competitive tournament. The rules should be clearly defined, especially since the consequences of one's categorisation are rather large, i.e. 50-100 point penalty (17-33% for "very top" players). The result is an unsatisfactory wishy-washy classification system that you admit yourself is "subjective" and down to your own personal decision-making.

For the record, I'm not in favour of a handicapping system. I even defeated He Who Always Beats Me, a top-ranked player, when we played 400 v 350 points (and it brought me no satisfaction).
