Crash bug in GS2.1 with Windows 7

Post by JimWC »

I'm experiencing a sporadic crash during the game once every few hours of play. I'm using the final beta files and playing on a Windows 7 laptop. Crashes occur at any time during my turn, generally (maybe always) when nothing is going on, that is, when I am moving the cursor to a new unit but have not yet selected it. I don't believe that the map has been scrolling when any of the crashes occurred. There is a second (possibly unrelated) crash that occurs very frequently (i.e., more often than not) when I attempt to load a saved game. I have not seen this second crash ever in loading saved PBEM games, only AI games. In both cases CAEW exits without an error message to Windows.

I have the exact same problem with my install of CEAW 1.12 + GS 2.10.

The game frequently quits abruptly, returning to the desktop.
This happens :
- after clicking the load a game button, especially if clicked for the first time in a session
- after clicking a unit
- after clicking the save button (only happened once)

Crashes like this occur several times during a session.
It looks like a display problem to me, but I could not find anything in the windows system events.

The computer is an HP laptop running Win 7 64 bits. 4 Gb of RAM. Video board is a Nvidia 9300 m.
The display size is 1366x768, thus the 1024X768 game window takes the whole height and part of the width of the screen.
I have updated Java and the Nvidia drivers to the latest versions.

The crashes happen both when playing in full screen mode or not.

I purchased the game version that is currently on the website for download (CEAW 1.12 + GS 2.0) and installed GS 2.10 instead of 2.0

Any advice on this?

I have also installed the game on a desktop with a 1950x1080 display and it ran fine, except for the fact that the image is awfully stretched in full screen and very small and not centered otherwise. The desktop also runs Win 7 64 bits.

Here's another crash on a Windows 7 laptop (though fairly unusual). I dropped a para in England. A Briitsh carrier in port in London intercepted (German fighter fought the carrier). At that point all of the landing zone spaces had circles, but no icon and the para did not drop. I still had a cursor but could not click on anything, so the game was effectively dead. I repeated this 3 times and it recurred each time. If I attacked the carrier before dropping the para, so the carrier could not intercept, the drop went ahead normally.

Same issue here with the occasional crashes to desktop. Sometimes when I click, sometimes while the AI is taking it's turn. Any advice to minimize this would be appreciated.

There was a bug with intercepted paradrops in GS v2.1. That is fixed in GS v3.0.

Quite a few other bugs are fixed in GS v3.0 as well.

Good news! We all hope the Win 7 crash bug is fixed as well... Cuz its impossible to play the game properly... if you need to redo all your movements everytime the game crashes...
