Afrika Korps Campaign Path

Post by b52pilot1 »

I have a question about the campaign path for Afrika Korps. Will the vanilla campaign tie into Africa? For instance, can you play the vanilla campaign; get a Marginal victory in France; then go to Greece; and after Greece choose Barbarossa or Africa (similiar to the original Panzer General campaign path)? Additionally, once you end the Afrika Korps campaign, will you be able to tie back in to the vanilla campaign in the USSR?

No it won't be possible. This is a campaign balanced to be played as a stand alone. So you won't be able to tie it to vanilla campaign.

However in the bigger picture - in a galaxy far far away - will there ever be a situation where you as developers will feel there is a benefit in combining all future releases ie afrika, allied, pacific (Please!! :P ); into one large inter locking campaign path where the user can at key points take their core force onto any of the future releases/ campaign path??? Therefore allowing you to re enact the whole of WW2 historically.

I think that by editing the campaign file and the briefings you would be able to achieve that.

In the far future, I don't know, but currently there aren't any plans.
Personally, I doubt. This was already debated during beta.
Each campaign is balanced to be played as it is. It's not just a question of tying up scenarios one upon another and making a new campaign tree.
A modder or anyone can in fact do it, like Rood said, just by editing the campaign.pzdat file. But it's a big job to balance all that, earning experience, prestige, etc, etc.
Remember that the developers team is small and they don't have unlimited resources.
So between dedicating efforts to do this and porting the game to other platforms, Allied Corps, etc, something will have to be left behind.
I think that this is something that a modder, probably will end up doing it, anyway.

I think it would have been better to include Africa in the original main campaign and then design an expansion pack to improve and add features to that campaign (and the game in general as a whole) ... but I'll be happy enough to try a separate african campaign.

I see your point. But remember to add another theatre of war, like desert, you need to create a lot of new things besides the scenarios itself, and that takes times. So, IMO, If they had included the desert, probably the release would had to be postponed.
Sometimes developers and publishers have to take strong decisions if you want to be on track.

That's a nice idea !

Although you somehow would have to get rid of the base core in AK to achieve that.

Hmmmm.....this conversation sounds familiar. I suspect that there will be many more topics on this subject in the days and months to come.
