Upgrading of Axis Minors

Post by syagrius »

Does the Romanian, Hungarians share the same tech tree of Germany or of Italy? I noticed we can upgrade them however they dont have any research, so I assume they are on par with Germany?

They are all 2 levels lower than Germany, so for instance if Germany has level 4, they can get level 2.

Yes, but there's some question whether upgrading minors is an effective use of always-scarce Axis resources.

If one does invest the Axis production in upgrading the minors, and they are damaged, does one then invest Axis production and manpower in repairing them?

Countries have their own manpower and that is also one reason we do not want the minors having too high tech (hence -2) since they then become a life line that can be used to prevent German manpoer shortage.

Actually a really cool thing is that because of manpower limits and upgrades - it is wise NOT to buy too many units, but enough that you will have money to keep them upgraded. It doesnt cost MP to upgrade (I think?) - I like to upgrade when a unit has lower strength, because then I can do repairs next turn and give it an extra rest turn to regain effectiveness, which it loses during upgrade.

It costs the minor nation's manpower - use enough and you will get the low manpower warning(s).

I think its worthwile to upgrade minors because on the Eastern front, I dont' have enough of german units to cover the whole front! All the southern part of the front is covered by Hungarians, Romanians, Bulgarians and Italians. If someone managed to cover the whole front with German units he must play with "Advantage Axis" set on!

I used the same formula for them based on their population figures at the start of the war. I wouldn't suggest worrying much about it unless you get the warning. Not much you can do about it anyway.

I like to use the minors to garrison all my conquests as I push forward.
