game freeze loading saved game

I saved a game, exited, and returned a few days later. when i load that game, i get a black screen for the map and no controls work. I can't get the menu to show up. I have to go to task manager to exit the program.

an autosave game does load and work.

Something must have happen with Panzer Corps installation in between. Did you bought and installed any DLC?
The save is from the GC DLC or from vanilla campaign?
Anyway install the last update (again, if that's the case), 1.05.

I played around with in and other saves worked. I just started playing it and i think i saved during a deployment of the norway scenario. I played through the poland scenario again, then deployed my units for the norway scenario, then i saved it, quit, returned and loaded that save and it worked.

am I correct in assuming i can't save during a deployment phase?

No. You can save during deployment phase.
