Are they dice or just blocks of something other than metal

They are just dice. Normal plastic dice with strange numbers.

Sorry, didn't read the whole thing as I was stumped at a nineteen sided Mayan dice.

0-19 Mayan dice would be 20 sided, not 19 ;-).

Hmmm..if you roll your full set of Mayan dice and get the maximum score on all of them, does the world immediately come to an end?
