Haven't made any definite decisions yet, but I'm re-evaluating my Louis XIV army that I had created in paper form several months ago.
Here is the list:
Grenadiers a Cheval - Elite Determined Horse
Line Cavalry - Superior Determined Horse
Line Cavalry - Superior Determined Horse
Line Cavalry - Average Determined Horse
Dragoons - Average Dragoons
Dragoons - Average Dragoons
Guard Infantry - Superior musketeers
Guard Infantry - Superior musketeers
Line Infantry - Average musketeers
Line Infantry - Average musketeers
Line Infantry - Average musketeers
Militia - Poor musketeers
Artillery - Arty.
So, using this as an example (http://www.venexiaminiatures.com/fra600.pdf) I'm wondering if anyone who knows the history better could give me tips on who should be what. The two guard regiments are obvious to me (Swiss & French Guards) but the Average and Poor musketeers have me a bit of a quandary. I don't know the history anywhere near as well as I'd want to, and I don't want to 'insult the memory' of some fine unit by painting them up as my 'poor' unit. So, if anyone could give recommendations I'd appreciate it.
As an aside, I'm planning in doing a bulk paint lot, so will be going mostly with the grey colouring as much as possible allowing the guards to stand out a bit more, so if there is only a minor difference between the regiments I'd be happy just to 'call it as I see it'... in which case I'll probably go with my favourite flag colouring
