Unhandled Exception

Post by garyr2019 »

I received an unhandled Exception error.

I was playing my turn in a multiplayer game and had just moved in front of a previously hidden vehicle. That vehicle fired and the game made a strange noise and stopped. There was a window open behind with the unhandled exception.
I restarted battle Academy tried to make the move again but it did the same in roughly the same place.

I wanted to report this before trying again.

I had a message similar to that one, and reported it, they "rolled back" the game - worked fine after that.
Took them a couple of days, maybe you'll be luckier.

Can you copy the contents of the error.log file from My Documents/My Games/BBCBA into this thread. You'll need to do it immediately after the crash (or as it is now if you have not run the game again since it crashed).

Thanks

Thank you for replying so promptly.

I had restarted to see the version number. When I tried just doing the part of the battle that crashed it was OK.
I killed the task, restarted and played the turn as I had the previous 2 times it had crashed.
It crashed again at the same point.

here is the contents of the log:

Hmmm - can you let me know the game you are playing (your opponent for example) and the move you were trying to make. I will try and repeat here.

Cheers

My opponent is PRINCEZALESKI.
I was moving units starting at the top of the screen and working down.
The move that crashed the program is at the very bottom with one of the German units moving past a hedge / tree on the left and being shot at by a hidden allied vehicle.

Can't repeat it here, which probably means it is system specific. Can you give me your system details - I'd suggest by running DxDiag as explained at the top of the Tech Support forum, I only need the first 200 lines or so. It's throwing a number of D3D errors prior to crashing, but they are 80004005 which is basically a generic 'something went wrong!' error, so not very helpful.

Hopefully a look at your spec might clarify it somewhat.

Cheers

Re: Unhandled Exception

It looks like you have the latest drivers for the Intel integrated video card, but they don't seem to be WHQL certified, which is naughty of Intel. It basically means the driver couldn't pass the stability tests that Microsoft put most drivers through. I will try and run it here on my older Intel chipset machine and see if has the same problems.

Does it crash if you just scroll around in that area without moving the unit? Can you try making the move with the camera in a different position? My guess is that it is a problem caused by the firing effects in this specific position. Perhaps zooming in close while making the move might work around it. The crash address is being called all the time, and the objects don't change, so it's some kind of interaction with the sequence of events caused as the tank reacts to you. Have you tried playing the turn from a clean reboot of the machine?

You could also try and see whether there is a BIOS setting to allow the chipset to share more of the main memory, or try turning off/down the shadows from the launcher menu.

Sorry I don't have a solution for you. :( But I will keep looking to see if there is anything more I can suggest.

Cheers

Thank you very much for addressing this so quickly.

I understand that this type of technical problem may be difficult for you to solve.
I will try your suggestions tomorrow and report my results here.

Thanks again and goodnight.

Thanks for all your help. Hopefully disabling shadows will be a solution if all else fails.

Cheers

I have played quite a few moves now without any issues.

It seems that disabling shadows may have solved the problem.

Thanks.

Thanks for letting me know. Glad we could find a workaround, if not a solution.

Cheers
