Iraq
DV on turn 19/22
Ending prestige 4400
Losses: 1x Italian fighter, 1x Italian strategic bomber, 1x Italian Recon Car
It's time time for Germany to show the world the true meaning of shock and awe with it's own invasion of Iraq! This was a very well designed scenario. Crossing the Tigris and Euphrates was non-trivial but what really made this scenario tough was the massive British air power. The Spitfires made short work of a couple of my Italian units, I may no longer be able to give the Regia Aeronautica a substantial presence in my core as it's units seem no match for the British. I was able to capture the decisive victory but for a while it appeared to be somewhat in doubt.
I would recommend no significant changes to this scenario but one thing that disappointed me are the non-objective cities in the Northeast and Southwest that have special dollar sign tiles outside of them. I captured them but nothing special happened. I was hoping for a captured unit or at least a special prestige bonus.
Great work, Afrika Korps continues to hit it's stride!

Re: AK: Iraq
You did get 400 and 500p in those towns but I also noticed this prestige is not given to the player instantly, so you probably didn't notice it when you were looking for it.
Strong air presence means you encountered radar units? This means you didn't neutralize Baghdad airfield in 7 days (turns).

Is it a bug I'm not aware of?uran21 wrote:You did get 400 and 500p in those towns but I also noticed this prestige is not given to the player instantly, so you probably didn't notice it when you were looking for it.

Re: AK: Iraq
Actually not a bug in this case because trigger is set on end turn, I checked right now. But if the trigger is set to instantly it would "lag".
Remember when I sent you that testing with airplane in the corner that comes as reinforcement and triggers a message of its appearance.
You would select it, move it and than message would appear claiming its appearance in the corner and centring the map in the corner but plane was not there any more.
It is the same thing. "Instant" things happen after some action is done on the map. Message would help though.

Re: AK: Iraq
I guess I didn't capture the airfields fast enough. I don't remember what turn that the huge number of Spitfires appeared on, but it wasn't the first turn by any means. Seven turns in sounds about right. I thought the "you have seven turns" comment was just referring to the length of the scenario. I didn't really pay attention to the amount of time that each turn represented, sorry about that.
Re: AK: Iraq
Same here, I thought 7 days related to the number of turns total somehow. I think you need to make it more clear that there is a 7 turn timelimit, otherwise the RAF will be hard to deal with...

Re: AK: Iraq
General level. Starting prestige 7537, ending 4566. Elite replacements for all core units.
I did not encounter any massive RAF attack. I was able to neutralize the radar station/airfield until my panzers could sweep down from Mosul. DV on 16. The ground forces were not a problem for my veteran core. The only test was keeping that airfield out of play.
I did notice two hexes marked with a dollar sign - $. I did destroy the units next to them and occupy them, but I didn't notice any special function for them. What is their purpose? *Edit - they are at 5,26 and 31, 3. *

Iraq beta 2
FM level, DV at 16/22
Prestige start, 7,100. End: 9,150. Net: +2,050
(Elite replacements to “10” during scenario for core units, unless very badly damaged – those retired and repaired w/Elite in next deployment).
I also did not figure out significance of dollar signs. But should have guessed from ending prestige? (Hexes 5,26 and 31,3)
This was a fun scenario, but rather easy and generous time limit? I hit the airbase quickly and then had little air difficulty; it was neutralized on 2nd or 3rd turn. Map and geography felt accurate - relatively speaking. Twice during scenario, I did think, "we should be taking Basra and the Shatt al Arab..." I had a bad feeling about that...

BETA 3
Colonel
end 4231
DV
The air power is brutal here.
Worst part was I lost my SDkfz 10/4 the last scenario. It was a 4 star.
Lost tons of prestige here.
Had to use elites allot.
The air force kept coming and coming.
I could never kill a fighter. It was always left with one or two points.
Had to buy another fighter and 10/4

Re: AK: Iraq
Need to add a couple of map hexes at the bottom, otherwise the road at (26,29) is useless.
Re: AK: Iraq
Received a message in turn 2 that reinforcement i sending and an italian bomber (Il Cattivo) appears in the same turn. Received the same message in turn 3 again and no unit appears, should there be a thrid bomber?
Re: AK: Iraq
No third bomber. Will check the messages, thanks.
Re: AK: Iraq
I got the message on the first turn explaining the situation and what to do with predeployed bomber. On the next turn I got message about arrived reinforcements and second bomber is on the map. On third turn I did not get anything nor on the fourth. So I could not get the same situation as you described.
Re: AK: Iraq
I still have the savegames of the end of turn 1 and 2. Load them again and end turn, the message appears both times.uran21 wrote:I got the message on the first turn explaining the situation and what to do with predeployed bomber. Re: AK: Iraq
Almost at the end of this scenario a lot of allied fighters appears and attacks some of my uncovered planes. Where do they came from??? 6 fighters shot down a Ju52 with paratroopers and hardly damaged a StuKa. So instead of the beginning at the end a lot of aircombats were performed. I like this suddenly counterattacks!!!
Re: AK: Iraq
what does that tell you ?zappel wrote:Almost at the end of this scenario a lot of allied fighters appears and attacks some of my uncovered planes.

It's easy to be wise after the event.chris10 wrote:what does that tell you ?zappel wrote:Almost at the end of this scenario a lot of allied fighters appears and attacks some of my uncovered planes...never let planes uncovered

Re: AK: Iraq
This isn't really specific to the Iraq scenario, but the question did come to mind while playing that scenario. I had an SE Panzer on the space adjacent to the radar station and the I started wondering where a "kill" of a radar installation would register in the battle history of the unit, so I checked. It seems that it is marked up in what I believe are the bunker column. Then I started to wonder where hangar/oil well kills are registered as well. Although the oil installations were a one-off situation it seems that radar installations and hangars are becoming a fairly common feature in AK, so I'd like to suggest that both get their own specific icon in the kill section as it appears there is plenty of room to accommodate them. I have no idea how big a headache this would be but thought I'd throw it out there...
Re: AK: Iraq
Kills are registered per unit class, and in case of radars, hangars, pump stations etc. unit class is "structure". The icon of this class may not be optimal, but otherwise, I think that this approach makes sense.
