commanders in commander

The manual states there is a leadership affective range? where is it ? IE Zhockov, sp?, is a leadership of 8, so is his range 8? And what rating does he actually affect? of the units NOT attached too inside this range?

In the general.txt script are alot of gameplay parameters. The range is 8 and is called

COMMANDER_RANGE 8

Commanders have
leadership
ground attack
gtround defence

Leadership will increase the max effectiveness of units within 8 hexes range.
Ground attack and ground defence will affect battles from/to the exact hex the Commander is on.

A unit with several nearby commanders will get the leadership bonus only from the commander with highest leadership.

This means having a

Commander
5
0
0

and

Commander
7
0
0

near each others is a waste since the "7" will be used instead of the "5".

thanks, so lets talk about my red army corp three hex from Zholov, leadership of eight. What exact affect does my corp get, better defense? etc?
IE "max effectiveness" is not a game term that I understand, please clearify. thanks .. very fun and challenging game imo

The effectiveness is a value used in combat, maxEffectiveness is just a theoretical value effectiveness can reach when a unit is totally rested.

You can for instance have maxEffectiveness 80 but effectiveness 0 which means your unit is completely demoralised. Your unit will regain effectievness every turn until reaching the max.

So, lets say you have a fresh unit with maxEff 70 and eff 70. If you deploy Manstein nearby it will get leadership*2=8*2=16 bonus to maxEff so now it has

maxEff 86
eff 70

next turn it will regain abit so maybe

maxEff 86
eff 76

next turn

maxEff 86
eff 80

next

maxEff 86
eff 82

So you do not get the leadership effectiveness gain right away, it takes a few turns.

Does it make a difference putting a leader in a particular unit? For example if I put Rommel on Infantry Corps instead of an armoured corps, is there a penality or does leaders are good on any units?
