troop types and figure representation in chariot period

Post by FOGwargames »

Does any of the team know the following:

1. Whether the early NEW KINGDOM INFANTRY (DBM blade fast) will stay the same in terms of 3 figures and that they will be differentiated with the later NKE infantry who apparently fought in a closer formation, perhaps phalanx style, and therefore 4 figures on a base.
2. I would be interested to know the team's view on the Hittite infantry of the time of Kadesh (later NKE period). I would go with close order (4 figures to a base to match the NKE of the period) rather than 3 figures of medium infantry which perhaps is more appropriate for the earlier Hittite period and Syrian?
3. Do the team envisage differences between the DBM auxilia oridinary and inferior as being significant in that the former has a shield and the latter none. I ask this in particular reference to the "auxilia" of the chariot/biblical period which were the bulk of the infantry. I assume in FOG they are medium infantry?

I tried to get a better idea of the reasoning by looking for the sample army lists but they seem to have been withdrawn from the site?

I look forward to hearing from someone in the know.

thanks

Hi,

I'm not on the design team but I'm playtesting. The DBM Bd(F) won't need rebasing. From alook at a draft army list you have the option to deploy the "close fighters" as either medium foot (DBM BdF basing equivalent) or heavy foot (DBM BdO basing equivalent).

For the Hittites, again from a quick look at the draft lists, it looks like they will be deployed on an auxila type base (i.e. 20mm depth) they can be either 3 or 4 figs to a base (you choose)

In the rules AxI are represented as "poor" morale and possibly unprotected whilst AxO will probably be "average" and possibly protected, depending on size of shield. There is a significant difference in how the two categories perform. In FoG Ax and BdF are all Medium Foot.

Hope this helps

Neil
