Limited Tiger game AAR (NOT GL88) Meeting, Enric as Allied

Post by enric »

With GottaLove we begin an AAR of Meeting engagement with the agreement that the german will not buy more than one of these Tiger II, so a maximum of 400 point allowed on Panther, and Tigers.

This scenario is a huge map the first thing I found, as allied, is that I was only able to buy 3 transports, but I can buy 3 mortars and 20 infantry... for me it's not logical. I'm not going to advance to take the flags without infantry support, so my force is a foot one.

I chose all artillery possible as suppression is very important, 2 Priest and a Calliope.
11 tanks and SP guns and 11 infantry.

To Slitherine: to download the images is a problem as: "The file is too big, maximum allowed size is 256 KiB".
I'll use my account at dropbox, but it will probably be full nearby, it's there another way?

Not much to explain the firs turn, I must go south and west, to the village. As no compass card are on the map (this could be a suggested improvement) I assume that it's noon so the shadows point to North, so the upper left of the map is north for me.

A think I don't use to do the first turn is use bombard, as we can play several times a scenario, we can know where the opponent units are placed and this would be taking a not elegant advantage. (to avoid this, the random placement of units on a delimitated area would be an improvement).

My idea is grouping the units near the village, and let the scouts around looking at possible targets and tell the artillery where to fire.

I promoted a Sherman 76.

TR 24
A scout has spotted another scout and a Panther as open fire agains my scout, so I sent the scout deep in forest.
The Panther sighted is too far for my Priests, and the two turn bonus artillery would be a waste.

My idea is consolidate the three flags more at N-E, and then decide which others could be accessible, will see as the match develops.
I use to notate the units sighted with a small utility that counts the amount of points of the team, in that way I will predict the units that left to be sighted (more o less). Until now only a Panther and a Scout are nothing for 2000 points.

Sighted 2 Panthers S of the building at 37,64, ummmm :o ,now I understand, when I proposed to have a maximum of a Panther and a Tiger, GL88 agree but to no spend more than 400 point on these tanks (I thought it was the same but, he preferred to get 2 Panthers :) ).

Well these are still to far for my Priest, btw I promoted one of my Priest.

I've not a strategy in mind, all my forces are disgreged and many of them still far away from the city, so just tactical movements were done this turn, I will try to leave him the initiative and decide on the fly.

On my right flank, as expected as I'm doing the same as German, GL88 is doing things :), I'spotted a scout and destroyed it.

The rest of forces are still advancing toward their positions near the city.
The two spotted Panther are, aparently without many additional support, I've a scout just two tiles away from one of them, I send a P47 to see what's the effect over one of these.

TR 21

This has been a hard turn for GL88, as I got the two Panthers spotted since several turns I planned a P47 attack, where they will probably go.

A Panther was ambushed by my M10 but no luck, the Panther returns fire but none get killed, then the other Panther comes to help that one and it finishes movement where my P47 has been planned. The P47 put the second Panther on suppression, the my 2 Priest put the other Panther below zero morale. Two Shermans come to the fight putting the other Panthers below zero morale, then the M10 advanced adjacent to both Panthers and both surrender.

This is a great advantage, but I must advance to the city with caution, GL is and average++ player, and nothing is still decided.

Sorry no images that turn.

Not much this turn I continue advancing south, taking street by street, building by building. Don't taking the flags because this gives the opponent info about your position (this is, in my opinion, a thing to be changed in BA).
Some of the Sherman that begin the game far away are arriving at the city.
Image

A Halftrack spotted, some Priest fire but not much effect, probably GL has dropped some Inf- or AT nearby.

Bad turn, I played without care, this is the risk when you feel confortable with the succes of killing the panthers.

Bombardement and an engineer attack eliminates my 2 engineer in the forest.

A german scout was spotted and eliminated, I detected fire from the buildings in north of the spotted scout: a mortar is there.

TR 17

Allied are controling the village except a little portion in the south.
At the west of village a Stug moves, receives side fire form a Sherman 76 and a M10 but not luck :( , then opens fire and eliminated a Sherman  , a M10 deals with the Stugg, a 75mm, that open fire from the forest nearby, is also eliminated by bombardment of a Priest and a Sherman fire.

At the E of the Village, a Stug was eliminated by combined fire and another one put in suppress mode, will see if I can kill it next turn.
In the South of the village several wounded Waffen were eliminated, it cost me a Scout however. Also an infantry that was very wounded in the E of the city was eliminated by my infantry.

As the status shows not much left to be spotted, probably there are several Marders protecting the Wespes. I plan to be cautios as much a possible.

TR16 or 15?

On the left side of the city one of the two Stug open fire to protect the retreat of the other which was suppressed last turn.
In my turn, air support comes here killing a mortar and suppressing the StugG.
Priest fire put it on complete suppress mode and then a Sherman and a M10 advance toward them killing one and augmenting the supression of the other.
This make me fell that the left side will be controlled in the following turns (I hope).

Stug.jpg (118.38 KiB) Viewed 3324 times
On the south, a planned bombard takes place where obviously the Wespes are placed (I say obviously because I do that playing as German) the bombard (bingo!) killed a Wespe, so I will not put my Wespe there anymore as seems a too obvious place to place them.

On the south of the city there are still too much german infantry, one of my scouts was fired and near killed by a SS...

There are only 270 point to sight, probably GL has another Wespe (115) that leaves 155 points, maybe some Pumas?, more infantry?...

In the north east I continue the pursuit of the STUG and doing that I discovered another Stug and two Halftrack that come to support it. I tried to suppress the other Stug with Priest and Calliope but not luck. Then I pro motioned my Sherman and it get the possibility to shot at STUG and killed it.

One of the transport load a mortar, and I also spotted a infantry.

So I've spotted near every unit that GL has, maybe a infantry and a MG left. I assume that his Wespe is protected by a Marder, so all his remaining forces are here in the East and South of the city.

TR 12

The battle is concentrate on the south east of the city, an infantry was killed and the Stug put in retreat, Priest fire also disrupted a Halftrack and wounded the mortar.

In the South of the city a ranger advanced but was killed by a Calliope and a mortar.
GL has a difficult task, for the units spotted and assuming hi has almost a Marder protecting his Wespe, his forces begin to be exhausted here.

Next turn I will try to catch his Stug and if my estimates are correct he only has a Marder capable to fire AP.

Germans surrendered.
GL has played well but all the game was marked by the premature loose of the two Panthers.

Thank for the game Gottalover88.
