Big question is has anyone check Dave's dice
Big question is has anyone check Dave's dice

Re: Roll Call Runners and Riders
No need to check unless someone gave me dice that could fail tests.LeslieMitchell wrote:Hows Roll Call going?

I loved the chance to get four games under my belt, i did find it a very steep learning curve, only one win with my Westphalians mind thats one more than the real ones ever got and that was against an 1812 French army.
I'd like to thank all the FOG N players, more so the people I played four very interesting games and I'd like to specially thank Terry for putting up with me pestering him while he played with rule questions. It was really good to have one off the rule writers there. You learn so much more from one of these events maybe now the army lists are out I could get someone to bring a Naples army to Britcon I might then have a chance of winning a game there or maybe not.
Thanks to bruce and the team as well for spending their weekend sorting out the details.

Re: Roll Call Runners and Riders
Sorry guys - my fault...!!Paddy, Paddy, Paddy - winner!
He obviously learmed too much from me as I defeated him in the 2nd game on saturday (the only outright win my Austrians had!).
He came back on Sunday and scored 2 big wins.
Well done Paddy.
Re: Roll Call Runners and Riders
Excellent, now can we get some reports?
Re: Roll Call Runners and Riders
Its the way to go play and learn, it was a steep learning curve for a lot of the players, but i learned so much and it was fun,IanB3406 wrote:Excellent, now can we get some reports?
Not sure anyone took reports too many people looking at the rules and learning as they went.
Looking forward to the next event and meeting up with some of the players again.
Dave

I could give you a few thoughts as to what i learned coming from an ancients and FOG R player.

Some army compositions would probably help in the abscents of AARs.

1ST Horse Artillery Battery Artillery Average Drilled line
PBI 1
I took this too Roll Call just cause I like the Westphalian Army, expecting to lose all games since this would be my first tournement playing FOG N. It was a steep learning curve, but I learned so much more playing the game than by simply reading the book.
I managed to play over the weekend two french armies one who for some reason had a large amount of German toops with them
and both Russian armies.
Most of the armies had taken large amounts of Infantry and not as far as I saw much Cavalry. One of the Russian armies had mass'es of cannon.
I did'nt do any reports to busy trying to work through the rules, but I have had a think about what I learned from this weekend:
1. I will mostly be defending(was all four games) only having a PBI of 1 almost makes that certain. The terrain was a lot better than FOG AM, the defender laying first and then alternately for the rest ment the defender had a good chance of getting terrain. I gained the large hill in three along with the extra points to your army break
2. I picked a river as this fills a good bit of the table.
3. Don't deploy right up to the 6mu from the table edge, deploy as far back to allow you to move since a defender can move to the 6mu line. This allows you a bit of lee way to react to your opponent.
The army list is as good I'll get using the Westphalians. I've dropped the horse artillery and added a 6 base unit of conscripts.
4. A lot of armies use large units
5. In deploying keep the army tight together its hard to adjust your deployment.
With regard to the Army list above I will I think drop the Horse Artillery Battery and take a large conscript unit instead, more infantry does seem good.
