Oxford FOG R Competition - 22nd and 23rd September 2012.
Following our successful competitions over the last three years with FOG AM, I thought it would be great to offer a FOG R Competition.
The background of the competition is the TYW which saw Catholics and Protestants battle for control of Europe. Can you and your allies defeat the heretics and bring about the triumph of the True Faith?
This competition is a pairs competition with teams of two players, one playing an Catholic army and the other one playing a Protestant army. Individual players can enter but will need to be matched with another player for the event.
In each round pairs will be drawn against each other and the Catholic player of pair 1 will play the Protestant player of pair 2 and vice versa.
The army lists 15 mm FOG R armies must not exceed 700 points.
Armies: covering the TYW period 1618 to 1648 from the following: -
Catholic Armies:
Early Thirty Years German Catholic
Later Imperial Spanish
30 Years War Peninsular Spanish
Later 30 Years War German
Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (1620-1631)
30 Year War Danish (1643-1645)
Protestant Armies:
Early Thirty Years War German Protestant
Hungarian Transylvanian
Later 30 Years War German
30 Years War Danish (1625 – 1629)
Early 30 Years War Swedish
Later 30 Years War Swedish and Weimarian
Later 80 Years War Dutch
30 Years War French
Early 17th Century French
Later Ottoman Turkish
Early Caroline English
Draw: First round draw will be done by date order to match historical opponents a much as possible - thereafter Swiss chess format.
Competition Rules:
The competition will use the full FOG R rules including the terrain and set-up appendices.
Please note that the FOG R pairs will be a single list format, each player may only submit one list.
Army lists must specify the number and size of battle groups and their order of march for deployment, and the number and type of commanders chosen. They should also include the territory list for the army. Once an army list has been submitted it may not be changed or altered other than to correct any errors. Players may only correct their errors by making reasonable changes to their list. It is not allowed to completely re-write the list, and the list checkers decision on this is final.
Any incorrect list discovered after a game has commenced (after set up dice have been rolled) must be corrected prior to deployment if spotted in time, and fully corrected in any case before the next match.
Army lists must be submitted for checking in advance and must be received by the List Checker not later than two week before the event.
The List Checker is to be agreed (any volunteeers?). Who ever is the list checker they will certainly appreciate players using list calculator that can be downloaded from the BADCON website (http://www.badwargamers.org.uk/) as this makes checking easier.
Players must fully define their troops as they are placed on table. Figures must provide a reasonably accurate representation of the troops they are trying to represent – they must not look deliberately misleading.
It is proposed that we use 5’' x 3’. Players must supply their own terrain pieces. As we are using smaller tables then each player will only be allowed up to 4 pieces including the compulsory pieces. In addition the area along the short edge of the table that foot or artillery cannot be deployed in will be 9” and not 12”. The restrict of 9” will also apply to where threatened flank applies.
Players must be present and ready to start the match at the appointed time (see the program
below). Where a player has a reasonable excuse for arriving late the match start will be delayed by
up to 30 minutes. After which time the effected player will be awarded a bye and receive initially 10
points. At the end of the competition this will adjusted to reflect the average number of points they
have received in each other round. No player will be awarded more than one bye for any reason. If
a player resigns from a game at any stage after the first set up dice have been rolled their
opponents will be awarded maximum points, and they will be awarded 0 points.
When time is called, play will continue until the end of the current phase.
Time will be called after 3 hours plus or minus a 1 – 15 minute random factor. The random factor will be determined by the umpire prior to the start of the round, and will not be revealed until the announcement is made. Players may always commence games earlier than the stated time by mutual consent.
A limited number of spare 15 mm Armies are available to borrow for players without the appropriate armies.

Re: Oxford FOG R Competition - 22nd and 23rd September 2012.
Are allies restricted to the armies named? For instance, cribbing from armies seen at the BHGS doubles, are Later Ottomans forbidden from taking Tatar allies?
Re: Oxford FOG R Competition - 22nd and 23rd September 2012.
Any ally must be one that fought in the TYW.
Re: Oxford FOG R Competition - 22nd and 23rd September 2012.
Surely Later Ottoman Turk should be playing in a different category altogether?
Re: Oxford FOG R Competition - 22nd and 23rd September 2012.
No,
The Later Ottoman's allied themselves with the Hungerians to attack the Imperialists.

Now that Britcon is successfully finished it is time to get ready for the Oxford Pairs. We have 7 teams so far and can accommodate a few more. I also need a partner for Peter Card. Peter is "against the Pope" so we need a player "for the Pope". Assistance can be given with providing an army if required.

Were are looking for 3 more players. One Pair team and someone who is happy to play on the Catholic side.
We currently have 8 and half teams but David and Lynda will step up to play the 9 team but would prefer a dedicated FOG R players to take the places.

I'd be happy to join up as the Catholic half of a team - if you have a Protestant who can tolerate me for the weekendviking123 wrote:Were are looking for 3 more players. One Pair team and someone who is happy to play on the Catholic side.

Dave,
That would be great. Peter Card is the "Protestant" Player - he is using Later Ottoman Turkish.

If you are interested in playing but fear the mighty Alasdair, then have no worries as his on holiday and will not be playing. Nor will Paddy who is also on holiday. However Ben is playing.

Actually that's a shame - I'd hoped to see them both there. After all the social side is at least as important as the actual games ....viking123 wrote:If you are interested in playing but fear the mighty Alasdair, then have no worries as his on holiday and will not be playing. I guess I'll just have to talk extra wargaming b*llocks to everyone who is there, that I know, just to make up for it.
Re: Oxford FOG R Competition - 22nd and 23rd September 2012.
Well you will know most of them - Ben, Andy, Dave Allen, Gordon, Tim Porter, Tom Elsworth, Peter Card, Lance, Richard Jeffery-Cook, Jon Akers plus more from Burton. Dave and Lynda unless I can pursude anyone else to play. And of course there is me!!!
You can talk extra wargaming b*llocks to all of us.

Are there any places left for this?
Thanks

I have space for one Pair - one playing Catholic and one playing Protestant. If you have a partner to play then that will solve everything.

I haven't broached the 'pass out' question yet
Re: Oxford FOG R Competition - 22nd and 23rd September 2012.
Simon,
There are plenty of things for the "Boss" to do in Oxford - the colleges, the Ashmolean, Pitt Rivers Museum, the Bodleian Library plus theatres.
