The old favourite would be to try reinstalling the game and see if that helps.

Cheers

Always prob to start LEGION

Post by taiyaki »

Hi !

Thanks for your hint, I tried it (uninstall LEGION and re-install) but the problem is still the same.
Does LEGION supports the Direct X 9.0b ? It seems it doesn't.
Do you have any patch ? ? ?

As you know, because of the version nr 9 is installed, I can't re-install the version nr 8. Or do you have any idea ? ?

Thanks to you. Pierre.

There certainly shouldn't be any problem with a version of DX, as Legion uses an earlier version which shouldn't actually have changed from 8 to 9.

Did this start happening only after you updated?

Cheers

Which version are you you using (i.e. which language & which publisher) & did you apply any patches to it?

Yes, I think the problem appeared with installation of DirectX 9.0b.

The version of LEGION is in French and I don't know about the publisher (where is this information ?). On the box, I can read names of Nobilis and Paradox.

No, I didn't apply any patch to Legion.

Thanks to each of you. Pierre.

We have DX 9.0c installed here and it works fine. Maybe try upgrading to that? I'd also try reinstalling the game as this often fixes such problems.

I know when I ran the french version of settlers 4, I had to set compatibility mode for it to run smoothly.

I hope that helps.

I think I might have the same problem but can't be sure.

I bought a used copy of Legion for $5 at EB Games. I was so excited to own the precursor to Spartan. I installed it immediately, and played it for hours. Over the next two or three weeks, I had loads of fun on this relatively primative, yet utterly gripping game. Then, one day it all went down hill. I put in my Legion CD and clicked play. It ran through all of the pregame cinematics, then I heard the little "doonk" sound that goes along with a Windows XP error message. But the screen was black, so I couldn't see the error message. If I hit the "Enter" key, the screen reverts to windows, but the error message gets closed. I re-installed the game. No help. Just minutes ago I re-installed again. No help. I tried both 16 bit and 32 bit colour mode. No help. I tried both 800 x 600 and whatever the next one up is 1024 x 720 I think. No help. I even tried running the game without the CD, hoping that maybe it was just my CD that was corrupted, and that if I loaded from the harddrive it would work. Same thing as always. What can I do?

Hmm, I'm not sure what to suggest if it was working & just stopped it could be that the CD is damaged and the copy protection system is failing because of that. Maybe somethign you installed is causing the problem? Maybe DirectX has become corrupt instead of the game.

If you uninstall try deleteing teh Legion dir completely (excet saved games) and see if that helps. It can't really be a bug in the game that we can fix as it was working fine before :(

I think a file in CD may have become corrupted. I don't think it was something I installed, because the only game I installed after Legion for months was Pax Romana, and that was only hours after installing Legion. I don't think it could be DirectX, because my other games all work great.

Dithyrambos, I met the same problem. I changed my video card  (a one able to manage DirectX 9) and after that it ran nicely. Keep courage to have fun !

Yes Video/graphics card are the same thing. You could try cleaning the CD, but if it really is a corrupt file on the CD then there is not much you can do aboutit except return it and I doubt you'll get a refund as it's not new! CD's do where out over time :(

Shops reselling used games is seriously damaging the industry as they are the only ones who make money - we don't get a cent.

I have a very up to date Graphics Card.

But from the consumer perspective, it is much more affordable to buy a game used for $10 from Gamestop than to buy new for $40 dollars. I'd love to be able to buy solely from Slitherine, but right now I have a tight budget and can't afford to spend $40 a piece on Legion and CoW. Maybe if guys lowered the prices for these games since demand is low...

And I say this as friendly, constructive criticism, not as an attack. As I said before, I'd love to be able to buy all your games solely from you, but most consumers will not pay $40 for a game they can buy for $10 at Gamestop. :( (I only can't because right now, $40 is beyond my budget range, otherwise, I'd be glad to buy from you guys anyway.)

Absolutely - I understand. It's not the comsumers fault, it's the retailers and I'm not having a dig at you in any way! I don't see how retailers expect publishers to keep supporting them when they are killing the market with cheap 2nd hand goods and keeping all the cash. At least in the UK you cannot resell PC games because there are too many serial code issues with the first purchaser registering and activating teh game, preventing the 2nd from doing so, so I'm surprised the US allows this.

NB - you can buy Legion Gold & Chariots of War for $19.99 as digital downloads & then the CD will never run out :)

I have great news! Well, its great news for me atleast... I fixed the problem! Its the funniest thing.

I was sitting in my computer chair, trying to decide which game the play, but all I wanted to play was Legion or CoW. I don't own CoW yet, so I decided to try and see if I could find the problem with Legion. I try troubleshooting, and that didn't help at all. So I decided to not only uninstall Legion, but to erase the files that don't naturally uninstall, and then start over from scratch, to fix any errors that might be in the files. After I re-install, I try to play the game. And again, I hear the little "doonk" and the screen goes black. I sighed, and did something I'd never thought of before, I pushed the Return to Windows button. Suddenly, my screen was no longer black! I could see the error message! It said, "Error, cannot find Legion CD". I'd seen this before, with some of my older games, they wouldn't run in my E Drive, but they did work in D Drive (or maybe it was the other way around, whatever way it was, the point is, some of my games work only in the dive I normally don't use). So I put Legion in the other drive, and it worked great! I've now conquered almost half of Gaul! I'm so happy! :D

Great - glad it works. It's one of teh problems with PC's - so many possible things that can go wrong somtimes its almost impossible to know if they are hardware or software related.
