Wot, no boats?

Something that suddenly struck me in the rules and sample army lists is the absence of boats, ships, etc. In WRG these took some proeminence, what is the rationale for their removal? (not that I'm too sorry to see them go, though ).

Rivers, etc in DBM were used as crossable surfaces for boats, but are obstacles only in FoG.

Not when using the basic rules. The campaign supplement may contain rules for tactical involvement in land battles.

As with mounted infantry, we found little evidence of "tactical" use. Rather ships/boats were used for campaign purposes to get troops to battle and support them. Even the hollywood viking raid was in reality more of a landing in safe place, disembakr, walk a bit and crate mayhem.

We felt therefore the few occasional tactical uses - asn there was a little - were best handled at the same time as introduing and emphasising their mainstream use in ancient warfare. This way we keep peoples mind focused on the bigger picture of how such assets were deployed.
