extended line

Post by deadtorius »

Just a thought that occurred to me the other day, if you have a large unit in extended line, does it count 3 bases as its half unit or does it still just count 2 bases for flank support?
Wondering if you can split that large extended line into 3 shooting groups or just 2?

If E is an extended line with no target in front of it, then it can support fire both at 3 and 1 if other units are shooting them.

But

__E
2_E

In this case E has a target partially in front so it shoot there. the 2nd part of E with no target will provide support fire. p 51 under extended line and also supporting fire at bottom of left column

A half-unit is just that - For a small unit it is 2 bases, for a large unit it is 3 bases.

Thats what I thought, but I had hoped to have stumbled on an evil anti-Blathergut tactic my large Austrians might use to get more dice against his bothersome long range shooting reformed Froggies. Well guess its back to hiding behind lots of difficult terrain. I think the Austrians will start fighting behind more woods...
